A diehard lover of authentic Rock'n'Roll music, Ding Dong (real name Alain Pourquier) was France's leading Rock'n'Roll dee-jay in the early Eighties when he produced an acclaimed series of 10" albums for Charly Records compiled from recordings made for Sam Phillips' legendary Sun label. Ding Dong then launched into another series of 12" albums for Charly, following the same formula that had been so successful in the 10" series. Mini biographies of most of the artists are included on the sleeve back, written by Ding Dong.are vintage photos of the featured artists appear on both sides of the sleeve. Several classic original Sun singles were included on this set: Dick Penner's Your Honey Love, Rudy Grayzell's Judy, Ray Smith's Right Behind You Baby and You Made A Hit. Previously unissued sides: Ray Smith's Why Why Why (alt take) and Break Up, Eddie Bond's Show Me, Broke My Guitar and This Ole Heart Of Mine, Roy Hall's Christine, I Lost My Baby and Sweet Love On My Mind. The special limited-run vinyl version of Tectonic Plates Volume 3' is comprised of four individual plates, each cut and pressed to the same high deejay-tooled standard as a regular Tectonic 12" single, housed in a wide-spine heavyweight card sleeve with eyecatching metallic artwork. The mighty Tectonic drop the latest in their esteemed lates' series, compiling exclusive tracks from a selection of electronic music's leading and breaking artists. Since starting low frequency operations in 2005, the Bristol label has been a beacon for dubstep, bass and progressive electronic music fans, releasing music from artists of the calibre of Skream, Loefah, 2562, Peverlist, RSD, Flying Lotus, Joker, Addison Groove, Jack Sparrow, Photek, Benga, Digital Mystikz, and label boss Pinch. Over the past year, album projects with legendary Jamaican dub producer Scientist, NYC beat-experimentalist Pursuit Grooves and live dubstep duo Author has reflected a broadening of Tectonic's core sound, whilst remaining faithful to its roots. The lates' collections provide an opportunity to showcase the label's vast array of talent and at the same time extend invitations to like-minded respected artists to join the club. On Tectonic Plates Volume 3', the first half offerings range across classic 140bpm tempi, including Kryptic Minds' haunting opening declaration he Talisman', Pinch's deeply cinematic [1]low Out The Candle', volution' by Clue Kid, and the supersonic ach' by Japan's Goth Trad. Tribal influences permeate through Tunnidge's §niversal' and rhythms also swerve towards funky with an appearance from Roska on 80 BC' and, shot through with an array of classic scratch DJ samples, hantom' by Addison Groove. Cardiff's Monky introduces the second movement with the transcendent breaks of loat' before the heavy-prog-rock stomp of Ginz's Chrome' body-slams events firmly back into place. Three breakout artists are featured with recent Red Bull Music Academy participant Om Unit, Kevin McPhee (named in DJ Magazine's Ones To Watch for 2012) and Manchester's Illum Sphere, whose set at Radiohead remixes album launch for Boiler Room in October topped a fantastic year. The album's closing scene is the epic 10 minute ogue State' by 2562, an artist who needs no introduction since Tectonic released his career defining albums erial' (2008) and §nbalance' (2009). Limited edition hand-numbered 2xLPs (housed in old-style tip on gatefold jacket) +++ Lovingly remastered from the original multi-track studio tapes +++ Includes liner notes and original artwork from The Cool Aid House +++ At the end of the 1960's, there was a house in Vancouver that was a home solely for Hippies and homeless youth; it was known to locals as "the Cool Aid House." When the Canadian government withdrew funding in 1970, the house was in danger of closing. All of the top bands in the Vancouver area offered to record songs for a benefit album-and since the local music scene produced some of the best bands in Canada, the album that resulted was stunning; it has long been a much sought-after collector's item. What no one knew until recently was that the original "Cool Aid Benefit Album" was intended as a two-record set: contractual problems with Capitol Records forced Cool Aid House founder John Walsch to drop tracks by Mother Tucker's Yellow Duck-tracks that are now restored to this package. Other cuts include the strange proto-electronic burbles of Mock Duck (quite unlike almost everything else they ever recorded) on 'As the Bullet Enters Anton' and 'Pointillistic Scherzo'; the vicious snarl of Black Snake's 'Carousel,' and the strange Spalding Grey-ish acoustic song/poem 'The Planet Man.' Hydro Electric Street Car have left little behind them, but their lovely 'High Memory' sounds like a lost Grateful Dead track from their early, dreamy period. A terrific discovery! The end result of the joint efforts of Light in the Attic and Lion Productions is this deluxe 2xLP package, jam-packed with stand-out music by Vancouver's top bands of the day: Mother Tucker's Yellow Duck, Papa Bear's Medicine Show, Mock Duck, Hydro Electric Streetcar, Route Nine, Blacksnake Blues Band, Nancy, Spring, and Greydon Moore and Leo Jung.
