Halfaxa is Grimes' sophomore LP. Originally available as a limited CD release, it's now available worldwide on CD/LP/Digital. Claire Boucher speaks a different language. And Halfaxa, her second album, feels like the dictionary from which we might discern just where this being comes from. Halfaxa is simultaneously more human than Geidi Primes, and yet falls deeper into a hole of mystical obscurity. The lyrics, as throughout this album, are designed to be an additional instrument, and not necessarily a device that gives obvious meaning to the proceedings. There is a strong focus on primeval and simplistic percussion to Boucher's music, though I am apprehensive to compare it directly to club music. Even with all the fog and barriers she presents us with, at the core of her music is the human heart. There is a heartbeat in every note. Her breath is often used as a percussive element. Somehow, Grimes says more about life through her methodology than through what she literally chooses to say. Like all great world music, her sound transcends language.

Dinner is Danish producer and singer Anders Rhedin. Dinner leads a nomadic existence, dividing his time between Los Angeles, Copenhagen and Berlin. So far, Dinner has 3 EPs and a guided hypnosis tape under his belt. This April sees the release of his debut album Psychic Lovers. Whether the finished album lives up to Dinner's vision only Dinner knows. Musically, the album exists in its own space between the 80's, 90's and the present. The songs are pop songs held together by somewhat idiosyncratic arrangements. Opener "Cool As Ice" sounds like the soundtrack to David Lynch directing Miami Vice with overdriven synthetic strings and an equally eerie and funky slap bass that slowly grow into a pop structure. "Turn Me On" invokes the feeling of Sade recorded on VHS fronted by Klaus Nomi's baryton-possessed ghost, or a warped jingle from The Home Shopping Network. The song "Lie" has distinct Nico-esque undertones and John Cale-ish overtones wrapped in 80's melancholy, while "Wake Up" and "The World" explore inverted 90's Euro-pop. In the words of mix-engineer Filip Nicolic (Poolside), "The whole album sounds like Chimo Bayo produced by Marquis de Sade." An even more concise definition of Dinner comes from label-mate Mac Demarco: "Great face, great body, great tunes."

M:FANS, a radical new reworking of one of John Cale’s most unique and lauded solo records, the 1982 masterpiece Music For A New Society, M:FANS explores the relationship between old and new, in terms of the sound and vision, and Cale’s memories of the experience, in terms of his life and the recording. Back and forth M:FANS goes, sampling the original, while creating brand new soundscapes, giving Cale the opportunity for closure on one of the most testing eras of his life, and a way to keep moving forward. “Making any form of art is always personal to my mind. During the making of M:FANS, I found myself loathing each and every character written about in those original recording sessions of Music For... ,” says Cale of the reworking. “Unearthing those tapes reopened those wounds. It was time to decimate the despair from 1981 and breathe new energy, re-write the story. Then, the unthinkable happened. What had informed so much over lost and twisted relationships in 1981 had now come full circle. Losing Lou [too painful to understand] forced me to upend the entire recording process and begin again...a different perspective - a new sense of urgency to tell a story from a completely opposite point of view - what was once sorrow, was now a form of rage. A fertile ground for exorcism of things gone wrong and the realization they are unchangeable. From sadness came the strength of fire!!!” In 1982, Music For A New Society sounded exactly like its title: something futuristic, a new kind of songwriting exercise. In 2015, M:FANS is exactly that too, full of electrical crackle and disturbed frequencies, a different kind of dystopian future awaits. John Cale forages on;
it’s the only way he knows how.

Downloadcode. Heidi Marie Vestrheim is a Norwegian singer and songwriter, who’s well-known in her home country as an actor and TV and radio hostess on the Norwegian NRK. She started writing songs when she was 17 years old and founded her own independent label BlueBox Records in 2003. Her first EP “Pigs”, was followed by the albums “Signs and Fiction” , “Beautiful Houses” , “I Want to Go” and now in 2016 ” Black Forest”. Since 2003 she has been touring all over Norway and Germany in addition to gigs worldwide in cities such as London, Havana and Reykjavík. In 2006 she even went to tour China. Heidi Marie is constantly developing her musical expression and the lyrics have over the years become more mature and poetic, characterized by life’s challenges and the beauty and ugliness of time. We can clearly hear this on her 2012 album “I Want to Go” and this is also something her new album “Black Forest” is deeply influenced by. On “Black Forest” we find a variety of songs: The classical singer/songwriter songs “Who´s to blame”, “Tallest tree” and “Taking off all my clothes”, while some songs are Pop and Rock influenced like “Dark spring” and “Head”. In the songs “Almost gone”, “Galaxy van” and “Easy to love” you can hear the tribal drum beat and there are also some Gospel and Soul moments on the album, like in the songs “Words” and “Atmosphere”.” Heidi Marie has a voice and a sound that clearly stands out in the crowd of Norwegian music. She focus on lyrics, personal expression and she makes every effort to grasp the listener. Heidi Marie talks about making the album “Black Forest”: “It took me almost two years to write the songs and record them. I’m not one of those people who write songs easily. I don’t sit down every day from nine to five and write. I wish I could, but I’ve never been able. I need to get inspired, let the impressions and life get under my skin. Listen to music, find stories I want to tell, melodies that needs to be sung. On this album I wrote together with my musical partner for the last ten years;
Roy Ole Førland. He gets me started on the melody and I get him started on the cords. It’s been an amazing process, because for a long time I felt like I could not write any more songs. My head was filled with worries and doubt. My father died in 2011 and two years after that I hit the ground quite hard. I was not sure what to do with my life, what is the meaning with life? What about family, career, music, freelancing vs. stability, growing up, letting go of the past? Where and how should one invest the time and energy to get a good life? felt like I was lost deep inside a Black Forest.”

These are records of "unique beauty - a beauty marked by truth and thus also tragic and sometimes painful" (Sounds, Chris Cutler). Mastered by Brian Pyle, the original quarter-inch stereo mix tapes were digitally transferred by Paul Hamann at Suma at a 192khz / 24 bit resolution. From these the vinyl LPs were cut by Pete Norman with a Neumann VMS80 lathe. The Coed Jail Tour marks the release of the box with a set list drawn exclusively from the recordings of 1975-1982.
