The Cult are releasing a two-disc collection titled ‘Electric Peace,’ a set which combines the ‘Peace’ and ‘Electric’ albums. Recorded as a follow up to the group’s 1985 effort ‘Love,’ ‘Peace’ was initially shelved and its songs were released in various incarnations. The songs last surfaced in the Rare Cult box set that came out in 2000, and this collection is the first time in 13 years that the ‘Peace’ tracks will be available to the public. The ‘Electric Peace’ collection is due July 30 and will be available in CD and LP formats via Beggars Banquet. Back in October 1986, members of The Cult were looking for a rawer sound and were not pleased with the clean, studio feel of ‘Peace.’ Thanks to a collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, the group re-recorded the entire album in New York and created the ‘Electric’ album. Next month, the band return to the road to perform their entire ‘Electric’ album for their fans. “The Cult’s life blood has always been playing live, we are between albums and decided to continue the momentum created by ‘Choice of Weapon,’ stay in people’s hearts and minds,” said frontman Ian Astbury of the impending ‘Electric 13′ tour. “As ‘Love Live’ was such an incredible experience we have decided that performing the ‘Electric’ album, an event that has been demanded by our fans and followers as the perfect live set to play in 2013.” Recorded at Electric Ladyland studios, ‘Electric’ was the group’s first ever platinum selling release. The band embarked on a world tour in support of the release, as they had dates with Guns N’ Roses and served as openers for Iggy Pop and David Bowie. BIRD NEST ROYS were a six piece guitar pop band formed in Auckland, New Zealand in the mid 1980's. For all the dark tones pulsing through GAUNTLET HAIR's new album "Stills", there is also a guileless affection for the goth industrialists and post-punks who blazed a shadowy path through the 80s and 90s. Recorded during Portland, Oregon's grey winter days in producer Jacob Portrait's (UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA) appropriately named studio The Cave "Stills" is a modern salute to Trent Reznor and his cohort's arena-ready post-apocalyptica. The album follows the once-Denver-based band's 2011self-titled debut for Dead Oceans and singles spread across labels like Forest Family and Mexican Summer. After moving back to their hometown of Chicago last year, drummer Craig Nice and singer/guitarist Andy R. looked to their teenage selves for inspiration. "I started listening again to the stuff I would have in my discman in the back of my mom's car," says Nice. "White Zombie, Marilyn Manson - the production on those records is so amazing. Nothing sounds like that anymore." Mining childhood nostalgia for inspiration has proved effective. Stills cuts like "Human Nature," "GID" and "Waste Your Art" have the signifiers of industrial and minimal-wave a la British contemporaries The Durutti Column & Joy Division, but all the fluidity and momentum of INXS & Depeche Mode's 80s pop.
