In Croatia Sarah & the Romans one of the hottest country bands. Their unique mix between Polka, Waltz, Marching, Mazurka with Bluegrass and Country Music brought them to the attention of music lover across Croatia. Now they wanna spread their wings and bring their music across Europe and they chose AGR Television Records to make it happen. "Sarah & the Romans" was formed in 2014. The band has nine members which includes: two female vocals, guitar, fiddle, banjo, contrabass, mandolin, blues-harp and drum. Sarah & The Romans, preformed on concerts and festivals around Croatia and Slovenia. The first single, "Smoke in the Wind", was released in 2015 and was chosen in June 2016 by the Akademia Music Awards as Bluegrass song of the month. Sarah & the Romans recorded also "Una Sola Volta Ci Si Ama" together with 92 years old Bruno Petrali which gained nationwide attention. There's more collaboration to come in the future. The songs of Sarah & the Romans were included in the top lists of local radio stations and recognized at numerous European and US radio stations. Also, TV stations such as MTV Adria, RTL (Croatia), and HRT, paid attention to the band. Their debut album of Sarah & the Romans is titled "First Date" and will be available on CD, as digital download, and as stream on 27 October 2017. Glenn Reeves. Born in Shamrock, Texas, on December 29, 1932. Died in Jacksonville, Florida, on November 19, 1998. Despite an interesting bunch of recordings that show his good manners as singer and relevant songwriter, Glenn's place in History was firmly secured when he cut a raw demo of a slow-paced track titled "Heartbreak Hotel". Written by Mae Boren Axton - with whom he co-wrote some of his own sides -, little did he know that the hypnotic song would be Elvis Presley's first number-one hit and one of the best-selling records during 1956. Reeves had developed his country roots while being a High School student and by the time he changed his Texas home for Florida after a short stint in the Marine Corps, he was absolutely convinced to pursue a career in music. Signed by TNT Records, he had a couple of releases on 1955 but, even though there's an appreciable quality on tracks such as the country flavoured "I'm Johnny On The Spot" or the rocking "I Ain't Got Room To Rock", the poor distribution that became an steady trademark for the San Antonio, Texas, based label forced him to leave in search of greener pastures. On January 1956, a few weeks before Elvis hit the market with "Heartbreak Hotel", Republic put out a new Glenn's record. "That'll Be Love", a nice uptempo song, was coupled with a more conventional country weeper called "The Last Time". Reviews were polite and showed a preference for the "engaging piece of bright tune" defined by the former which probably paved the way for the next release, a juicy slice of Rockabilly credited to Glenn Reeves and his Rock-Billys and brought out on October 1956 by Atco, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. Curiously, at the end of June Billboard had noticed Glenn's signing for Atco, referring to him as a rockabilly from Nashville. Including the vibrant "Rockin' Country Style" and a good cover version of "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee", that was his one and only record for the company, as next year he was offered a short-term recording contract by Decca. Actually, the sides appearing on this single were part of the deal and conformed Reeves' third attempt at the label. Two solid rockers released on March 1958, none of them got Glenn's recording career off the ground and by 1959 he returned to work as DJ, promoter and even launching his own country music TV show in the sixties. He remained quite active until the end of his life and finally, after all, he found the success he long deserved. Although he did so behind the scenes instead of taking the stage as a singer, his TNT, Republic, Atco and Decca recordings can be considered as a fantastic musical legacy. No doubt about that! Johnny Cash. Born in Kingsland, Arkansas, on February 26, 1932. Died in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 12, 2003. While Carl Perkins' career at SUN Records was at its lowest point when he made the move to Columbia Records in the beginning of 1958, Johnny Cash was enjoying a wave of success that had let him built a strong reputation based on several number one country hits, a wide collection of memorable songs and, not less important, a very own recognisable sound. Nevertheless, whilst Perkins' desertion responded to a certain jealousy provoked by the fact of seeing how the company attention had turned to other artists on its roster, Cash had found some other motives to leave SUN: "Everybody was leaving. We didn't like the royalty rate we were getting. [...] I was paid according to what a small, independent label could pay me at the time. We didn't think it was fair". Another reason had more to do with artistic growth: "I'd been talking to other record companies about things I wanted to do as an artist, and I knew I wouldn't be able to do 'em on Sun". One way or the other, he felt sure that "it was definitely time to move on" and, in the summer of 1958, Johnny Cash became a Columbia artist, establishing a long-term relationship full of agreements and disagreements but plenty satisfactory when talking about artistic and commercial results. Nearly three decades that extended the legend and defined the myth of the Man in Black. Leaving apart a personal life adorned with heavy drinking, drug abuse and marital problems, Cash's first years at Columbia were quite productive. His first single for the label ("All Over Again" / "What Do I Care") entered the Top Ten and the second one ("Don't Take Your Guns To Town" / "I Still Miss Someone") reached the Number One. On the other hand, his discography augmented steadily well into the sixties as SUN kept releasing some of the cuts Johnny had recorded before leaving. The cuts on this plate are perfect examples of Johnny Cash early Columbia recordings. "I Got Stripes" came out on July 1959 together with "Five Feet High and Rising", another great song self-penned by Johnny. Telling a prison tale with notorious humor, it was his fourth single at Columbia and a big hit that reached the Top Five in the country charts and entered the Top 50 in the pop charts. On the other side, being a minor addition to the great railroad songs the singer recorded throughout his long career, "Lovin' Locomotive Man" (backed with "Girl In Saskatoon") was far from enjoying the success of "I Got Stripes", although Billboard gave the record a four-star "Very Strong Sales Potential" rating.
