Other Side of This Life is the final album from American folk music legend Fred Neil, released in 1971 before his long self-imposed retirement from music to focus on dolphin conservation in his home state of Florida. Featuring a side of live recordings of some of his most lasting and well known compositions (including "The Dolphins", and "Everybody's Talkin'") as well as a side of studio sessions featuring Les McCann and Gram Parsons, Other Side of This Life may not be Neil's most memorable album but it's still head and shoulders above most other singer-songwriter material of the era. Daniel Bachman is a 22 year old musician born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He has been playing what he describes as "psychedelic appalachia" since he was a teenager, releasing small run editions of tapes, CDs and LPs for the past three years, with a sound that evolved from drones and banjos to a now guitar centered focus. Touring off and on since the age of 17, Bachman has managed to cover thorough ground across the US, sharing stages with like minded folk such as fellow Fredericksburg native Jack Rose, for whom he fashioned the artwork for the posthumous release of 'Luck In The Valley'. His newest effort is the full length LP 'Seven Pines', sprung from a year living and working in the city of Philadelphia. Leo Taylor (Adele, Hot Chip) plays drums, Steve Pearce - who played on Everything But The Girl's feted album, Idlewild - is on bass, while Pearson adds signature synths and electronics. Three tracks include orchestral arrangements by Nick Ingman. Tracey says, "I ve always wanted to make a Christmas record. Every year, when the Christmas albums start appearing in November, I get jealous and wish I had one coming out. Last year, I made a resolution to get recording in January to be ready for the following Christmas. And so that s just what I did. They re not all strictly Christmas songs, but if they mentioned winter or snow or even just being cold, that was good enough for me."
