Port Orchard heavy rock specialists Mos Generator have not yet released their new full-length, Abyssinia (review tomorrow), but as ever, the Tony Reed-led outfit are looking forward already, this time toward a new EP release through Stickman Records called The Firmament. Set to be issued as a complement to a live video recorded earlier this year by Chris Mathews (now also of Ancient Warlocks) in an airplane hangar, it features tracks from the new album and others, a Joy Division cover and guest collaborators, giving it a really distinct feel among Mos Generator‘s output. That level of output has only grown more fervent over the last couple years as Reed has revamped the lineup, bringing in bassist Sean Booth and drummer Jono Garrett, and hit the road with the same intensity that for a long time was reserved just for studio work. Summing up EVERGREY's new album ‘The Storm Within’ quick and to the point, the band is celebrating their 20th Anniversary with the strongest album of their career. While this may come off as music industry lip-service in honour of the Swedish quintet, anyone who has followed Evergrey will find it impossible not to become completely enthralled by the music on ‘The Storm Within’ within the space of the first listen. The band's trademark progressive, dark and melancholic elements are as strong as ever, the album ranks as one of the most progressive record they've created in terms of performance, but Evergrey managed to put it in a package that is more accessible and direct compared to any of their nine previous outings. Frontman / founder Tom S. Englund credits Evergrey's learning-by-doing over the past two decades for the feel of ‘The Storm Within’, in particular their all-important ‘Hymns For The Broken’ record from 2014, which saw a revitalized Evergrey line-up return with a new energy. "We went from having no intention of making an album at all to having all the inspiration in the world on Hymns For The Broken," says Englund. “But, honestly, we've never felt better. The Storm Within is a massive album. There are no fillers on it and we've never been about that. I think the inspiration speaks for itself." Evergrey's lyrics have always matched the depth and intensity of their music, and the concept behind The Storm Within is no exception. Englund considers the storyline behind the lyrics to be one of the biggest concepts Evergrey has ever tackled, based on something that everyone can relate to; having someone, losing them, and having to pick yourself up and move on. He goes so far as to call it the band's first "love" album, but it's not a subject that should be taken lightly in the Evergrey universe. "As usual, the lyrics are based on someone or some event in my life," says Englund. "When we were making this album a lot of these relationship issues were going on around me; people losing a partner or a loved one and grieving. The Storm Within is about a search for identity, trying to make yourself full when you feel half empty, and I placed that storyline in an interstellar world." Musically, ‘The Storm Within’ plays to Evergrey's trademark prog metal attack but it's loaded with double-take moments. Lead-off track "Distance" is a surprise lead single (and first video), the melodically and lyrically stunning "Passing Through" is destined to become a fan favourite, "My Allied Ocean" is one of Evergrey's most aggressive songs to date, and the epic title track makes for the perfect album closer in the tradition of Devin Townsend or Rush. The addition of Nightwish vocalist Floor Jansen on "In Orbit" is the icing on an already filling cake. Record Label: Afm Records Style: Metal

From the icy north Quake The Earth strikes metallic hardcore with its diamond-edged grip in music. At the helm of this sledgehammer a combined union of young energy and solid experience bears a hellish fruit. The tectonic plates rumble as the force of nature from Oulu, Finland is being released. Sometimes the alliance of two elements is more than sum of its parts. After the Nordic near-death metal wonder Perfect Chaos, Finland has not had a new iron fist in years. That was until the band Forensic Hardcore met it's death at the end of 2010 when the vocalist quit the game. The group then came up with a burning idea to ask Aki Häkkinen to be their vocalist, him being the vocal force of Perfect Chaos and Grinister whom have had success outside of Finland. The other members of Quake the Earth also perform in storming bands. Together the mew group started working on the rough songs written by guitarist Jani Kakko. The cocktail of experience, talent and energy started to bear fruit and a new and fresh sound was unearthed. The band found themselves musically in the realms of Lamb Of God, Pantera and Hatebreed. Musically their role models are Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front and Rage Against The Machine, amongst others. Quake The Earth, however, does not want to create self-repeating music nor go with the mainstream or with a certain genre. Despite the strong influences, Quake The Earth has its own unique sound. After some hard grinding, four new songs were born to be recorded. This iron fist does not do anything half-heartedly. The first EP titled "First Blood" was recorded in one of the most famous studios in Finland, Mastervox in Oulu and was released in 2011. Sentenced, Poisonblack and Embraze have all used the same studio. Quake The Earth did most of the recording themselves and the sound guru Immu Ilmarinen engineered and mastered it. The force of nature has not stand still. The debut full length album "We choose to walk this path" was recorded at well proven studio Mastervox and was released in 2012 receiving amazing reviews all over the world! Hecate Enthroned is a British symphonic black/death metal band formed and based in Wrexham, Wales. With more atmospheric keyboards, crushing guitars and vocals that scare you to death. There are a lot of classic Hecate moments in there as well as some new vibes, the album probably leans more towards 'Miasma' than 'Kings Of Chaos' in that it is very varied yet the songs do flow together.
