But Smart Patrol are far from being just another sixties-influenced band! The four guys from Munich joined forces to fuse classic songwriting of the sixties with the sound, power and attitude characteristic of the music revolution of 1976-1978 and this resulted in 12 one-of-a kind powerpop gems wrapped in a tailor-made suit of hooks and melodies on their new LP "Overage Underachievers". But don't mistake them to be retro: the four guys all started out in punk-influenced bands, so in the end they've only gone back to their roots, or as they sing in their tribute to Munich's Atomic Café: "It's time to get back to basics" So what you get here is an album packed with perfect shots of power poppin' 70's mod-punk that would be all over the radio in an ideal world. CD DIGI SLEEVE It was only a matter of time before Stéphane Grégoire - artistic director of the label - regained his now well-known desire to bring about improbable meetings between artists he really likes. This new project goes by the name of Orchard and is in the succession of This Immortal Coil and Numbers Not Names. These projects are quite apart in the label's catalogue and could be described as daring bets with one simple objective - to give life to an intuitive idea. At the end of October 2016, the four musicians in question - Aidan Baker (Nadja), Gaspar Claus (Pedro Soler, Angélique Ionatos, etc.), Franck Laurino (Zéro) and Maxime Tisserand (Chapelier Fou) - met for the first time. The recording took place at the l'Autre Canal in Nancy (France). The sessions were intensive and created an extremely specific context in which the musicians were confined. This atmosphere spontaneously brought about strong cohesion which led the group to produce a real break with its environment, easily freeing themselves from the closed-in walls of the studios to imagine an organic music rather like the photographs by Francis Meslet which illustrate the cover art.

Belinda explains: I have been practicing Kundalini Yoga for over twenty five years and in the last twelve years I have built up a serious practice routine and begun studying the mantras that are used in classes much more closely. I’ve always wanted to do an album like this but I never felt I was ready until early in 2015. It’s not just music on this album, it’s a science that requires an element in the voice called the naad. Naad is almost a transference of energy through the voice and it wasn’t easy for me to learn. That being said, I am a pop singer so I could never be a traditional chant or kirtan artist as it would not be true to who I am. Wilder Shores is therefore still a pop album with the same structure of verse, bridge and chorus as my previous records but it is done with repetitive chanting. I’ve chosen seven mantras (there were thousands to choose from) that have been really effective for me and put them into the pop song format. If you were to put it on in the next room or in the background you would think they are pop songs, but when you listen you can hear it’s not in English but in the language of the Gurus, Gurmukhi. This project came completely from the heart and from the experience that I have had with chanting. I wanted to share with my fans what I feel can be a life changing practice for anyone. I decided to include an acoustic version of “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” on this album because lyrically it is and always has been a song of hope. I’ve performed it in a very broken-down form in big yoga classes, and have had many people coming up to me afterwards to say they didn’t realize the lyrics were so in keeping with yogic philosophy until they heard it stripped of all its production.

French-Cuban twins Ibeyi are back with their second album Ash, a record that tackles subjects as diverse as womanhood, spirituality, activism and racism, all conveyed in Ibeyi’s own unique blend of modern pop, hip-hop and electronic influenced music that incorporates the traditional sounds of Yorùbá. Ash is the follow-up to the twin’s 2015 critically acclaimed, eponymous debut album that made Ibeyi a globally recognized name. While Ibeyi’s first album grappled with the past - the sister’s relationship, origins, loss, and roots. It earned them fans and collaborators in some of the most iconic and crucial artists of today, Beyoncé and Alvin Ailey included. By contrast, Ash is a more visceral and potent political statement, and while firmly rooted in Afro-Cuban culture and history, finds itself entirely concerned with Ibeyi’s present: Who Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi are, what’s important to them, and how they live today, especially given that the spheres, both personally and politically, are entirely different from when Ibeyi was recorded. Ash was recorded in November 2016 in London with producer Richard Russell at his studio The Copper House. The album features twelve new tracks, including Away Away which was released in June, and includes appearances from Kamasi Washington, Mala Rodriguez, Chilly Gonzales, Meshell Ndegeocello. Deathless, the second track to be debuted from Ash, features the incomparable Kamasi Washington on saxophone, and was written in the wake of an experience that Lisa-Kaindé had when she was sixteen that involved her being wrongly arrested by French police. She went home and wrote the emotive Deathless, in which she describes her experience: “I was writing Deathless as an anthem for everybody!” Lisa-Kaindé says. “For every minority. For everybody that feels that they are nothing, that feels small, that feels not cared about and I want them to listen to our song and for three minutes feel large, powerful, deathless. I have a huge amount of respect for people who fought for, what I think, are my rights today and if we all sing together ‘we are deathless, ’they will be living through us into a better world.” Step out of the gloom and into Ibeyi’s world, a place of optimism, openness and acceptance. The modern world never looked so beautiful as it does through Ibeyi’s lens.

A glance at the discs, which rocked through the charts under the simple name of “Isley Brothers” will give you an idea of how a »long-lasting and self-generative family enterprise« (The Times) became a true soul factory. After a brisk start with popular rock’n’roll music, similar to that which a large number of black vocal groups turned out in the Fifties, followed a long march from one record company to another – all of whom were hard pushed to equate the dynamic musicality of these brothers with the 'own sound' of their productions. After hopping from one record label to the next, and not even getting a long-lasting break with the potent Motown label Tamla, golden days arrived when they set up their own label – T-Neck. Amidst the turmoil created by strong competition from superb studio albums, the Isleys landed a smash hit in 1975 with "The Heat Is On", an album which achieved double platinum status with its collection of perfectly written numbers. Powerful, funky volleys ("Fight The Power"), gyrating riffs as a launch pad for harmonious vocals and a creative solo ("The Heat Is On") go their own way, which is also apparent in the bell-like, airy ballads that swing along tastefully – quite without the sugar-sweet strings so popular at that time. This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid. Diana is a Canadian synth-pop trio consisting of singer and guitarist Carmen Elle, the Saxophonist and keyboard player Joseph Shabason as well as drummer and producer Kieran Adams. In 2013 the band released their debut album "Perpetual Surrender". To plan the second album, they moved to a hut in Quebec and then spend five months in reflective studio work with the recordings. The effort was the trio has developed audibly and a mature and complex album is full of music. with songs to feel good and dream.
