A psychedelic journey to the east on black vinyl. Brothers Hom Yu and Jiun Chi returned to Taipei in 2017 after finishing their studies. Since then they began to explore their mutual obsession for Taiwanese occult-inspired art and vintage superstitious imagery, channeling it through music. Mong Tong means many things in Chinese, but the translation they choose to fit their music is "the east-side of dreams". On "Mystery" these inspirations combine with the dark humour of Taiwanese folklore and a love of conspiracy theories to form what they describe as "a psychedelic journey to the east." Recorded in their home studio in Taipei, "Mystery" is a psychedelic journey into Taiwanese folklore combined with the 80's media obsession with the supernatural. It's a record that manages to combine nostalgia and tradition with humour and an underlying intrinsic earthiness to create something unlike anything else out there.

The vinyl version comes in a neat gatefold cover and the first print on black vinyl is limited to a 1000 copies. Uffe Lorenzen - Magisk Realisme Uffe Lorenzen (alias Lorenzo Woodrose) is the frontman of Baby Woodrose and Spids Nogenhat but for the past couple of years he has been recording and performing under his own name and been singing in Danish. His new album is called Magisk Realisme and is released September 11th on Bad Afro Records. Magisk Realisme is his third solo album in four years (Galmandsværk 2017 / Triprapport 2019) but in contrast to the first two albums which was mostly acoustic and had a 12-string guitar as the main instrument, the new album is a ROCK album. Uffe Lorenzen has been missing that side of his songwriting and several of the new songs sounds a bit like Baby Woodrose in Danish while others have the laidback psychedelic feeling of the Danish Grammy-winning band Spids Nogenhat. Lorenzen plays all instruments himself besides an occasional pedal steel guitar. The 10 songs on Magisk Realisme was written in a period of time when Uffe Lorenzen did not have a steady place to live. With help from friends he was staying in 9 different apartments in a short time during the summer of 2019. This rootless way of living reflects in the songs that are written in various parts of Copenhagen. The album also deals with loneliness and the feeling of being a bit lost even though you are living in a big city with lots of people surrounding you. Magisk Realisme is produced by Uffe Lorenzen and Anders Onsberg in the great STC studios in Copenhagen in the spring 2020. It is mastered by Flemming Rasmussen at Sweet Silence.

The ever-prolific King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are back with a new live album. Stream Chunky Shrapnel in full below via Apple Music or Spotify. The new 16-track effort was recorded during the group’s 2019 European tour. There are recordings from cities such as London (“Planet B”), Milan (“Venusian”, “Hell”), and Utrecht (“Inner Cell”, “Loyalty”, “Horology”), in addition to Madrid (“Wah Wah”) and Manchester (“Road Train”). In addition to the album, all of the Chunky Shrapnel live performances were captured in a corresponding feature-length concert film, directed by John Stewart. “It was fun and funny and wild and weird,” the band’s Stu Mackenzie said of Stewart’s filming. “Sometimes an inconspicuous fly on the wall, sometimes an intrusive camera man one inch from my face.” The concert film was available to stream exclusively on Vimeo on April 17th for just one week. Chunky Shrapnel marks the Australian psych rockers’ fourth live LP released this year.

The first side of this LP was released on cdr, as a gig exclusive last November at the Fruits De Mer & Megadodo labelnight in Bristol. The second side is a selection of similar, more recent recordings, some of which were published on his Bandcamp page.

As RidingEasy Records' highly successful Brown Acid series (now at 10 volumes and counting) proves, there is a massive amount of incredible heavy psych and proto-metal music that has been lost to the sands of time. Case in point, the astoundingly great 50- year-old album The Ice Age by Indianapolis quintet ICE was never even released upon its completion. In 1970, the band recorded 10 original songs at 8-Track Studios in Chicago, only to break up shortly thereafter. Two of the tracks were eventually released as a 45 in 1972, but confusingly under a different band name, Zukus! The A-side of that single was featured on Brown Acid: The Ninth Trip, which led RidingEasy Records to discover when licensing the track that an entire album had been languishing in obscurity all of this time. The 2-inch master tapes had been shelved and forgotten until recently when The Ice Age tracks were converted to digital and remixed, preserving the sounds of the original vocals & instruments. Finally, half a century later, this 10-song album of radioready rock will finally see light of day. The Ice Age is an exceptional archive of hard edged rock with serious pop hooks akin to something like Grand Funk Railroad meets The Guess Who and The Move. It rocks hard, but is also interlaced with glorious melodic hooks. Had fate been less fickle, this album would've long been a classic rock radio staple. Album opener "Gypsy" is a chiming Byrds-like rocker, with glistening 12-string guitar, organ and somewhat over-zealous vibra-slap. "Satisfy" and "3 O'Clock In The Morning" nicely pair up as the most pop friendly tunes, but with very clever melodies and structures sounding ahead of their time, the latter with an extended entrancing and droning refrain led by shimmering organ run through a Leslie speaker. "Running High" and "Catch You" were the two tracks released in '72 under a different band name, which received considerable local radio airplay. And, for good reason: Their nice balance of wayward psychedelic pop and troglodyte thunder is exactly what makes The Ice Age so captivating. Album closer "Song of The East" shares the growling glissando and orchestral style that made Vanilla Fudge and The Moody Blues household names. In the late 1960's five young men formed a rock & roll band on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana. They chose the coolest name possible: ICE. The group consisted of vocalist/keyboardist Barry Crawford, lead vocalist/ bassist Jim Lee, drummer Mike Saligoe, lead guitarist John Schaffer and rhythm guitarist/vocalist Richard Strange. They was among the first bands to perform an all original set throughout the Midwest at high schools, colleges & concert venues. They opened for national acts like Three Dog Night, SRC, Kenny Rogers & the First Edition, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and others in arenas and theaters. The Ice Age is truly an incredible and unprecedented find, particularly when we'd all thought the glorious history of rock'n'roll had long ago been written and sealed as complete.

Hail Spirit Noir is an intriguing psychedelic prog metal band, with strong experimental and prog rock influences, recommended for fans of Oranssi Pazuzu, Ulver, Borknagar, or Ghost, yet with an identity of its own. The group was established late 2010 as a trio and issued their debut album "Pneuma" two years later. Its warm reception strengthened the band's experimental approach and enhanced its quirky take on music, all of which inevitably led to the release of "Oi Magoi" in 2014; a psychedelic prog-black metal opus of trippy melodies and satyric aura. Followed by "Mayhem In Blue" in 2016, the band's signature sound was solidified, and at the same time expanded into more aggressive territories, without abandoning the group's trademark psychedelic-infused melodies. Since 2018, the trio has been joined full-time by its live members, changing the band into a sextet. The new album "Eden In Reverse" was completed late 2019. It is regarded by Hail Spirit Noir as the next step in their ongoing evolution, this time with an 80s twist. The songs sound retro-futuristic and surreal, and are more prog, psychedelic and challenging than anything the band has ever recorded
