Black Screen Records will release Jonah Senzel's amazing soundtrack of the critically acclaimed indie game Pony Island on vinyl this November. The bubbling 8bit soundtrack will come on limited edition 180 gram clear vinyl. The artwork was exclusively designed by the game's creator Daniel Mullins. The soundtrack comes with a Steam code, which can be used to download full game as well as the mp3 version of the soundtrack on Steam. Composer Jonah Senzel on the soundtrack: "Pony island is a game with two distinct faces: the cheerful outer facade, and the evil lurking under the surface. Most of the soundtrack is based around this idea of the "devil within" that's present throughout the game. The most fun part of writing the soundtrack was composing really over the top cheerful cutesy Tracks for the cheery sections and then turning around and getting as gritty and evil sounding as possible for the devil sections. For the happy sections I channeled my inner children's TV composer using fun, light and bouncy melodies played on old school 8bit synths as well as real instruments like the ukulele. For the demonic sections I also took a lot of inspiration from classic video game chiptune sounds, but I modified them to sound like they were glitching or broken in some way. Compositionally I incorporated some elements that connect back to the game's main theme, like the use of augmented fourths within chords Which were banned in earl classical music since they were thought to be the Devil's interval'. Overall it was really exciting to write for such a unique and interesting game. I'd like to thank Daniel Mullins for creating the perfect world for this crazy soundtrack to live in. " A trippy and unique experience that will make the player desperate and stunned at the same time. Pony Island is probably most enjoyable when played without knowing what to expect. Without giving too much away, it can be said that the game works mostly on the meta-level and it will take some time to figure out where the story is heading. A marvelous game for long and sleepless nights that will leave you pondering and amazed, while enjoying it's varied music that perfectly fits the constant ups and downs of cheerful and vicious moments. Newly remastered audio * Housed in a deluxe Stoughton tip-on jacket. Sometimes, it doesn't take very long to create something brilliant. When producer Robert Evans rejected Phillip Lambro's original score for Chinatown, Jerry Goldsmith was hired to create another, from scratch, in just 10 days. To say he rose to the challenge is an understatement. Goldsmith, a 20 year veteran of the TV and movie industry with credits including Dr Kildare, Planet Of The Apes and even The Waltons theme, turned in a work that was both a career peak for him and the saviour of Roman Polanski's masterpiece of neo-noir. What was clever about it? It wasn't quite straight jazz, it wasn't quite classical. It was identifiably a movie soundtrack, but an unusual one at that, leaning heavily on Uan Rasey's mournful trumpet solos, sparingly using pianos, harps, strings and percussion, and employing sounds and crashes as overtures. It doesn't try to speak to the film's 1930s setting so much as to the mood and feel of the movie, a piece about political and moral corruption in a water-starved LA featuring Jack Nicholson at the absolute top of his game. "I remember [Evans] speaking about the music having a contemporary feel, contemporary meaning the 0s," Goldsmith said in an interview before his 2004 death. "I said, [1]ob, I don't think so - you see that on the screen, why should I do that in the underscore? . Emotions are timeless.'" Originally released as a soundtrack in 1974, and long out of print, Cinewax's reissue is remastered from the original tapes and is presented as an exact reproduction of the original album artwork featuring Jim Pearsall's classic film art. Having channelled some of the most iconic drift music of our time through A Winged Victory For The Sullen and Stars of the Lid, 2016 has already seen Erased Tapes luminary Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie provide original scores for a number of feature films including Jalil Lespert’s ‘Iris’ and ‘The Yellow Birds’ by Alexandre Moors. It’s on ‘Salero’ however, that we see Wiltzie weave some of his finest work and deliver an expertly distilled accompaniment to director Mike Plunkett’s sprawling, uncompromising visuals. Set in Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, the narrative follows the region’s ‘Saleros’ – those who have for generations gathered salt and earned enough to somehow carve out an existence in such a barren landscape. It’s with the discovery of huge Lithium reserves – a mineral used frequently throughout the tech industry – under the scorched earth that acts as a catalyst for exploitation of the environment and its people;
holding a microscope to the drastic effect industrialisation has on local culture and tradition. “I have always said that composing music is infinitely easier when you have beautiful images to be inspired by. It was a pleasure to write a score over this captivating place of endless, glimmering salt before its impending demise. I was fascinated by this mythical space and its ability to define the identities of the people who live in its vicinity, where this vast salt flat itself would be a central character” – Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie Recording took place in Adam’s Belgium-based studio for the guitars, percussion and small string ensemble tracking. Hungary was chosen for the final large string orchestra recordings at Magyar Radio Studio #22 with the Budapest Art Orchestra. Adam will be touring his Stars Of The Lid project across European cities this autumn including a performance at The Barbican in London
