Downloadcode. Beggars Arkive announce the remastered vinyl reissue of Oceansize’s stunning 2003 debut Effloresce. The album’s twelve tracks mix shimmering, atmospheric soundscapes, with insistent drums and their trademark hypnotic, three-guitar attack, which catapulted them to the forefront of the so-called ‘new prog revolution’ of the 2000s. Echoing the expansive instrumentals of Mogwai, the rock-experimentalism of Jane’s Addiction and the sonic onslaught of My Bloody Valentine, Oceansize scaled new heights of grandiose, ethereal and utterly captivating music. Oceansize met whilst studying at Salford University. They self-released their first EP Amputee in 1999, followed by the A Very Still Moment EP before signing to Beggars Banquet in 2000. They released the Relapse EP via the label in 2002, with production by one of their heroes, Tim Smith from Cardiacs. Tracks from those EPs such as Amputee and Saturday Morning Breakfast Show found their way on to their debut album. Effloresce - which means “to burst forth into or as if into a flower” - was originally released on 29 September 2003. All the tracks were recorded and produced by Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Feeder) during Spring / Summer 2003. The album includes the singles Catalyst, Remember Where You Are and One Day All Could be Yours as well as the tracks Long Forgotten and Massive Bereavement, which feature mesmerising strings from cello, violin and viola duo Martin and Kimberley McCarrick.

JOHN BOY WALTON). Jörg Buttgereit is a Berlin based writer and director known for his controversial movies. The film that got the most attention and started of his career was no doubt Nekromantik' from 1987. Nekromantik became an international cult film that was banned in several countries. Two years later, in 1989 Jörg directed er Todesking (The Death King)'. This experimental style movie, which does not use central characters, explores the topic of suicide and violent death in the form of seven episodes, each one attributed to one day of the week. These episodes are enframed by the vision of a human body, slowly rotting during the course of the movie. Daktari Lorenz, Hermann Kopp &
John Boy Walton make up the holy trio of composers called upon by film maker Jörg Buttgereit. Between the three of them they produced some of the most haunting and beautiful tracks to be paired up with Buttgereit's controversial on-screen works of art. The Lo-Fi synthesizer music in the movie is dark and quirky and contributes an essential part of the movie's atmosphere, and is something you would very, very rarely hear otherwise. The main theme of the movie, "Die Fahrt ins Reich der Menschentrümmer part I-III" is a classical masterpiece. The score for er Todesking' displays the dynamic ability and range of the composers. It strikes a perfect balance of beauty, horror, joy and dissonance. The score is both minimalistic and hauntingly atmospheric at the core, and yet remarkably complex at the same time. A wide variety of instruments and sound effects are utilized throughout it's making. One Way Static now proudly presents for the first time on vinyl as an expanded release, the complete soundtrack to 'Der Todesking'. This limited vinyl release contains the original soundtrack (released back in 1990 as a limited 7"EP) and unreleased material sourced from recently discovered tapes.

Komfortrauschen continue to do what they know best, with their new album Plaste, they venture into a world of vivid, three-dimensional musical narration: Kafka at the beach? Let's take a closer look! They start precise with ice. The first track Dorian runs particular, like a machine, composing a musical déjà-vu. Prompting us to wonder: have we been here before? Moving to the second track ‘Hank’ we can find the same precision but with a more hollow thud. Half way through a little smush enters the acoustic picture until an almost funky up beat sound smuggles itself in, weaving through the composition. For the third track ‘Massefhase’ the smush totally takes over, creating a distance between the world and us, the thud turns into a friendly buzz - loans from funk and blues appear. I can almost grasp the heat flickering in the air. On the flip side we can find the track ‘Malo’, which is much faster, restless even. This time it is more Kafka on speed. Once we surrender to the music, it takes you to ‘Jänner’. A track absolutely and totally in tune with itself. It has exactly the right pace. Evoking the almost perfect asmr experience within the music, fetishizing sound like the stretching and brushing of something, appearing and getting lost again in the rhythm. Finishing with Le stuff, Komfortrauschen is taking us right back into a weird twilight zone. Whats up with the stuff? What stuff? Not my stuff? Where is the stuff? Where is Kafkas stuff? Is Kafka dead? Kafka's dead baby, Kafka's dead.
