Electro Tracks: The 90s! Get down to 12 selected tracks providing the typical club sound of the 90s! In this decade, electronic dance music became the absolute guarantee for success, both in the clubs and in the charts. Westbam, Tom Wilson, Zombie Nation, Gigi D‘Agostino produced anthems that are still extremely popular today. This sampler is a 70 minute time travel through the club sounds of the 90s.

In 2018, the idea was introduced by Jeff Mills to address the lack of artistic collaborations within and from the city of Detroit/USA. The city had always been an engine of new innovative ideas related to music, art, dance, poetry and all other arts. It was thought of as a way to demonstrate the commonality people possess from various art forms and that by mixing ideas visions and perspectives together are might produce unexpected and often provocative results. The project started when Mills reached out to one of Detroit Techno's founder and legendary DJ/Producer Eddie Folkwes. Though the two are known and connected to Detroit Techno and knew each other for decades, they never worked together so the first few meetings and conversations were marked with finding all the common links that have built both of their careers. During this time, Mills wanted to find a third person for the project, one that was from Detroit, but not a musician. His idea and theory was that by engaging two other creative thinkers would most likely produce something unique as emotions would become linked together to find that common, but higher level. While browsing the web, Mills discovered a post that featured the Detroit-born poet Jessica Care Moore. Struck by her words and the energy she mastered to say them, Mills knew immediately that she would be the perfect artist to approach for this creative venture. As with most artists that grew up in Detroit, they immediately opened up the links in their past, present and future outlook. He presented the case and explained to her how he thought it might work. She liked the idea and agree to join. THE CRYSTAL CITY IS ALIVE. (A phrase extracted from Moore's words), puts the Detroit, America and the World on notice. The alarm has sounded and it is now time to mobilize all creative units to the frontline.

On June 26th (June 19th on Bandcamp!), Rob Ellis AKA Pinch will release his first solo album in 13 years, via his own label, Tectonic. ‘Reality Tunnels’ is a concept that was originally introduced by Robert Anton Wilson in his 1983 book ‘Prometheus Rising’. In essence, the concept of a reality tunnel relates to an idea on how we create our own perspective – the subjective filter that we each apply to the world around us; the things we perceive and what our consciousness deems worthy of attention, IE what we see and hear is entirely relative to what we do not. 
 At points angular and uncompromising with levels in the red, frequencies pushed out and EQ curves stretched into strange new shapes, Pinch mixes both low and hi fi on this boldly distinct sonic statement. It sees him flexing years of production skills – but unconventionally so – knowing well that safe predictability and rounded polish don’t get the most interesting results. Dark trip hop Bristolia segues into blistering jungle on album opener ‘Entangled Particles’, before planet-hopping onto the spiky insidious grimestep of ‘All Man Got’, featuring the rugged rasp of OG warhorse Trim.

It feels like an almost indecent amount of time since Mark Sherry served us a Prism collection… On second thoughts, there’s no “almost” about it – it is! To be fair to Captain Outburst though he’s spent the interim DJing, A&Ring, label running, producing, remixing and mastering his way around the known dance universe. Cast an eye over its third volume (dropping July 24) though and you’ll get a sense of recompense for ‘Prism’s absence.‘3’ by name, three by its nature, for this edition Mark’s expanded his mix-comp to a third disc, meaning (no calculators needed!) it’s got two co-mixers attached. Scene legend Scot Project (not Scottish) and David Forbes (like Mr. Sherry, 100% Scot!) have jumped aboard, bringing heaps of the fiery stuff along-with. Collectively the trio deliver an awe/ear inspiring 60+ tracks to a release that’s less a music compilation, more a force of sonic nature!In various forms, incarnations & guises, the productions of Corsten, Picotto, O’Callaghan, Durand, Genix, Sneijder, Vini Vici, Shapov, NERVO, Three Drives, Lostly, Shugz and manifold others run riot. As is its established, the third ‘Prism’ reserves plenty of track-space to newer creators and recently-arriving talent too, with young heel-snappers like Richard Tanselli, Systembreaker, Jardin and others work passing through this ‘Prism’. The mixes are naturally triple stacked with a mass of its protagonists’ own and pooled aliases like Gentech and Thick As Thieves. Premieres, exclusives, new collabs and first-hears abound, as Prism’s force multiplying Pt.3 turns hard into a science!Mark’s mix commences in the calm, some might even say graceful waters of… Nah, just kidding - it starts exactly as it continues - with the insanely powerful teeth-rattling tranceterrordome that is his KETNO collab, ‘Space Monkey’. From there comes a track-triple from Thick As Thieves (Sherry & Forbes), before he releases Will Rees’ ‘Candy Jack’, ’Perseverance’ from Richard Durand and his remake on Pulp Victim’s ‘The World’ out into the wild. Richard Tanselli’s max-out of Picotto’s ‘Like This Like That’ and BIG CMV’s Ariel/‘A9’ renovation set it on course for the big finish. All of which allows Joint Operations Centre’s (John O’Callaghan) ‘Meraxes’ and ‘Change Your Heart’ from Sherry/Scot Project paring Gentech to mop up the stragglers!Conversely, Scot Project’s disc does start in the beatific - specifically with Genix’s padparadising ‘Rave’ and his Golden Girls’ ‘Kinetic’ rework. From there though - and with all the subtlety of a meat tenderizer - Scot Project engages the ‘crank’ lever and opens the throttle. Fuelled by some of his own musical moonshine, he locks his mix into a ferocious groove. In their original forms ‘M [Metropolis]’ & ‘H [Hypnotize]’ surface, swiftly followed by rewires of ‘FM [Feeling Me]’ and ‘S [Outer Space]’. The German legend then barrel rolls into a hot-run of other artists’ gear, with Adrenaline Dept, Renegade System, Zatox, Vini Vici vs Shapov vs NERVO all contributing to its heads-down charge. ‘Prism 3’s less-than-holy trinity is completed by David Forbes, who commences his mix with the toughest, taughtest, techiest retell of ‘Greece 2000’ you’re ever gonna hear. Its techno themes continue with David’s own Sebrof & DMCK ‘Phenomenon’, before Thick As Thieves check back in for some ‘Brain Control’. From there Mr. Forbes gets on a big solo roll, sending in quick succession ‘The Music’, ‘Hold Me’ and ‘Evolution Of Dance Music’ down the cables. ‘La Bomba’ from Shugz eyes the mix apex, while its accent continues with Sneijder’s ‘Chuck Norris’, summiting with Forbes’ own ‘TimeWarp’.Cake on top of a cake, burger on top of pizza - when it comes to hard trance, this is what indulgence looks like!

Musique Pour La Danse presents Roomservice, Dutchman Orlando Voorn's forgotten yet unforgettable IDM-leaning, home-listening electronica / techno album from 1994 under his Living Room alias, originally released on the producer's cult Night Vision label. Praised unequivocally by those lucky enough to have heard it, this criminally underrated record nonetheless deserves pride of place when talking about forward-thinking electronic music from the early 90s. While it is widely acknowledged that Orlando Voorn's productions are one of the most fascinating prisms through which to experience a European take on the Detroit sound, Roomservice is also a strong reminder that the paradigm shift from sweaty raves to enhanced home listening, championed by Warp's Artificial Intelligence series, early Rephlex releases, along with projects such as The Black Dog, Plaid or Autechre was in fact not only limited to British artists. As its name indicates, The Living Room is not geared for warehouses but instead interested in a more intimate and domestic setting. As such, it does not contain over the top bangers, but it's hard to find any filler in this album where all the tracks are killer, catchy and memorable. All displaying a sophisticated yet immediate focus on warm melodies and grooves no heavier than a feather, these emotional cuts provide a wonderful and intricate soundscape for introspective listeners to explore, and they will surely find echoes of ideas developped by Manuel Gottsching, Steve Reich and Pat Metheny scattered accross the album. While some tracks are rhythmic and would fill a dancefloor in a second with their four to the floor or broken beats, the album also gives room for more ambient excursions to occur and develop brilliantly. But once again, it's more likely you'll end up dancing on your couch rather than dozing off. 2020 might be the most difficult year in recent history for dancefloors worldwide, yet that's not going to stop Musique Pour La Danse from reissuing this gem of an album for listeners, dancers, and DJs of today and tomorrow.
