One of dance music’s most enigmatic figures returns home to Anjunabeats. GRAMMY-nominated producer Mat Zo is back with a brand new artist album set for release in October: ‘Illusion Of Depth’. At the age of 30, this is the London-born, L.A.-based producer’s third artist LP. He broke onto the scene in 2008 and has been causing an uproar ever since. In the early naughties, he penned Anjunabeats classics like ‘The Lost’ and ‘Synapse Dynamics’ which were far ahead of their time. They were followed by the likes of ‘Superman’, ‘The Sky’ and ‘Rebound’ (with Arty). He pushed the Anjunabeats sound to the mainstage, racking up spins from Pete Tong, Axwell and Armin van Buuren. It was his GRAMMY-nominated debut album ‘Damage Control’ that fully showcased Mat’s avant-garde approach in 2013. Featuring break-out hit ‘Easy’ with close friend Porter Robinson, the track took Mat mainstream: a Radio 1 A-List addition, Sirius XM BPM listing, a #1 Billboard Heatseeking record, an Essential Mix of the year nomination and, ultimately, a GRAMMY nod for best dance and electronic recording. Since then, Mat has grown his own stable. Self-releasing his second LP in 2016, ‘Self Assemble’, via Mad Zoo, Mat’s imprint nurtured a new generation of eclectic, genre-agnostic creators.

Brussels-based Airwave (official name Laurent Véronnez) needs no introduction to any Dance music lover globally. Already at the age of 20, back in the 90’s, his records (especially his big hits Innerspace, I Want to Believe, Above the Sky, Alone in The Dark, Ladyblue, & Save Me) were being played by the biggest DJs on the planet with regular spins by the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, John Digweed, and a few newcomers from the Netherlands - Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, and Armin Van Buuren. Armin and Airwave collaborated on two great tracks, including the smash hit Sunspot. In the business for more than two decades and among those still at the top of their game, Airwave has a voluminous discography under various aliases over the years such as Airwave, Lolo, Planisphere, The Green Martian, and many others. To put it simply, Airwave is part of the roots of the development of Progressive Club Music. His first three albums - I Want to Believe, Touareg, and the acclaimed Trilogique - are often among people’s favorite albums throughout the emerging scene until now. Airwave has done countless productions, remixes, as well as collaborations with the likes of Above & Beyond, Andy Moor, Sunscreem, BT, Markus Schulz to name just a few. In the past decade, Airwave has decided to dig deeper into the sound of Progressive and developed a new subculture together with his colleague John 00 Fleming, and forged a new path and sounds alongside the Underground Dance scene. The culminating point of this move was the release of Parallel Lines, Airwave’s 4th artist album at the end of 2013, and a number of incredible Progressive tracks including: Tigris and Euphrates, Gaijin, Sadness in Black and White, A Touch of Grace, and many others. In addition, during this time Airwave started his long term collaboration with French artist Phi-Phi, an icon of the Progressive House culture since its early days, and co-produced releases such as Back on Track, A Breeze on the Nile, ... Celebrating 20 years in style, Airwave recently released several albums including a retrospective 20 Years Airwave, followed by Progressive, Ambient and Classical Reworks, the last for which a beautiful making of Documentary was made. As a sought after DJ, Airwave has played some of the world’s most famous venues and stages and has toured on all continents (except Antarctica!). He is a Tomorrowland regular with 11 appearances including the main stage at Belgium’s world famous festival, he has played the Progressive Stage at ASOT, spun at the Ministry of Sound, been featured at Ibiza, and crisscrossed Asia, Australia, the United States, Canada, and Europe with packed tour schedules. In parallel, Airwave is also a well known Sound Designer and has developed a myriad of products which helped other producers fast track their own creative paths. His sounds and samples are highly prized by top DJs from all over the dance music industry including Ferry Corsten and Japan’s finest DJ Ken Ishii, as well as the jazz great Herbie Hancock. His work includes especially his Spectrasonics Omnisphere packs - which have become essential releases for many, his Triloops sample libraries published on Loopmasters - which can be heard on the tracks of many artists, as well as his work for Brainworx/Plugin Alliance in the form of presets for their classic emulations of the Knifonium and Oberhausen synthesizers. However, Airwave is especially proud of his work with Korg and the classic Wavestate Synthesizer, which ships with his factory performances, and marked the start of a long term and continuing relationship between Airwave and Korg USA. In 2020, Airwave has released several EPs - Those Silent Hills, Today is Made of Yesterdays, Flying Paper Planes, Atmospheres under his band alias Planisphere, as well as Trilogique Re-Invented, and is also exploring new directions taking cues from his heroes such as Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm and Aes Dana. In addition, he has further developed his talents and delved into film scoring, with a few projects which will be released in late 2020. Many consider Airwave’s music timeless. He has been called a “Genius” by none other than Armin Van Buuren and by many others a Legend, who has played and continues to play a key role creating the modern sound of underground Dance music and beyond.

Electro Tracks: The 90s! Get down to 12 selected tracks providing the typical club sound of the 90s! In this decade, electronic dance music became the absolute guarantee for success, both in the clubs and in the charts. Westbam, Tom Wilson, Zombie Nation, Gigi D‘Agostino produced anthems that are still extremely popular today. This sampler is a 70 minute time travel through the club sounds of the 90s.

It took a shade under thirty months for Pure Progressive to rock past its one-hundredth release. That was time enough for the label to bring music from near enough every prog operator of note through its doors and onto floors. Penner, Barone, O’Glue, Saint-Jules, Schossow, Driftmoon, label honch Solarstone (naturally) - you name ‘em, they’ve all received their P.P. pin. If there was any surprise to be had it was that Pure Progressive’s resisted a full-blown compilation until now. Time is time though and July 2020 sees Solarstone’s progressive progeny emphatically score that notch. At the wheelhouse of its mix/disc-deuce is none other than that flying Fin, Orkidea - a genre prognosticator himself who’s recorded for the label many a time. Notably perhaps it was ‘One Man’s Dream’ - their hundredth release, as well as his longstanding Solar-association - that saw him earmarked to mix-helm ‘PP Vol. 1’. Either way he’s seized both opportunity and reins to deliver a stupendously mixed first edition - and one that brings the best of his and the label’s artistic cohort to your ears. Amongst them - well an embarrassment of progressive riches abounds. Genre forefathers like Way Out West rub shoulders with scene-starters like Oakenfold, whilst a host of respected outfits from its dawn - Deepsky, Sunscreem, Desert, Slusnik Luna, Pink Bomb and others - see their works remix-reimagined. Orkidea’s split his edition clean down the middle, dividing it into “Artist” and “DJ” mixes. The former of which offers a major spyglass into what his album follow-up to 2015’s ‘Harmonia’ beholds. In-mixed-form it features no less than 12 tracks, including premieres for new cuts like ‘Rebel Time’ and his Sunscreem team-up ‘Perfect Motion’, as well as the just-out-there ‘That Feeling’. The latter meanwhile comes flush with many an edge-cutter from 2020’s prog class. Yotto, Grum, Paul Thomas, gardenstate, Forerunners, Allende and a horde of others pack out the second disc’s tracklist. Collectively ‘Pure Progressive Vol. 1’ serves the clearest possible vision of what’s-currently-what in the world of prog.

It feels like an almost indecent amount of time since Mark Sherry served us a Prism collection… On second thoughts, there’s no “almost” about it – it is! To be fair to Captain Outburst though he’s spent the interim DJing, A&Ring, label running, producing, remixing and mastering his way around the known dance universe. Cast an eye over its third volume (dropping July 24) though and you’ll get a sense of recompense for ‘Prism’s absence.‘3’ by name, three by its nature, for this edition Mark’s expanded his mix-comp to a third disc, meaning (no calculators needed!) it’s got two co-mixers attached. Scene legend Scot Project (not Scottish) and David Forbes (like Mr. Sherry, 100% Scot!) have jumped aboard, bringing heaps of the fiery stuff along-with. Collectively the trio deliver an awe/ear inspiring 60+ tracks to a release that’s less a music compilation, more a force of sonic nature!In various forms, incarnations & guises, the productions of Corsten, Picotto, O’Callaghan, Durand, Genix, Sneijder, Vini Vici, Shapov, NERVO, Three Drives, Lostly, Shugz and manifold others run riot. As is its established, the third ‘Prism’ reserves plenty of track-space to newer creators and recently-arriving talent too, with young heel-snappers like Richard Tanselli, Systembreaker, Jardin and others work passing through this ‘Prism’. The mixes are naturally triple stacked with a mass of its protagonists’ own and pooled aliases like Gentech and Thick As Thieves. Premieres, exclusives, new collabs and first-hears abound, as Prism’s force multiplying Pt.3 turns hard into a science!Mark’s mix commences in the calm, some might even say graceful waters of… Nah, just kidding - it starts exactly as it continues - with the insanely powerful teeth-rattling tranceterrordome that is his KETNO collab, ‘Space Monkey’. From there comes a track-triple from Thick As Thieves (Sherry & Forbes), before he releases Will Rees’ ‘Candy Jack’, ’Perseverance’ from Richard Durand and his remake on Pulp Victim’s ‘The World’ out into the wild. Richard Tanselli’s max-out of Picotto’s ‘Like This Like That’ and BIG CMV’s Ariel/‘A9’ renovation set it on course for the big finish. All of which allows Joint Operations Centre’s (John O’Callaghan) ‘Meraxes’ and ‘Change Your Heart’ from Sherry/Scot Project paring Gentech to mop up the stragglers!Conversely, Scot Project’s disc does start in the beatific - specifically with Genix’s padparadising ‘Rave’ and his Golden Girls’ ‘Kinetic’ rework. From there though - and with all the subtlety of a meat tenderizer - Scot Project engages the ‘crank’ lever and opens the throttle. Fuelled by some of his own musical moonshine, he locks his mix into a ferocious groove. In their original forms ‘M [Metropolis]’ & ‘H [Hypnotize]’ surface, swiftly followed by rewires of ‘FM [Feeling Me]’ and ‘S [Outer Space]’. The German legend then barrel rolls into a hot-run of other artists’ gear, with Adrenaline Dept, Renegade System, Zatox, Vini Vici vs Shapov vs NERVO all contributing to its heads-down charge. ‘Prism 3’s less-than-holy trinity is completed by David Forbes, who commences his mix with the toughest, taughtest, techiest retell of ‘Greece 2000’ you’re ever gonna hear. Its techno themes continue with David’s own Sebrof & DMCK ‘Phenomenon’, before Thick As Thieves check back in for some ‘Brain Control’. From there Mr. Forbes gets on a big solo roll, sending in quick succession ‘The Music’, ‘Hold Me’ and ‘Evolution Of Dance Music’ down the cables. ‘La Bomba’ from Shugz eyes the mix apex, while its accent continues with Sneijder’s ‘Chuck Norris’, summiting with Forbes’ own ‘TimeWarp’.Cake on top of a cake, burger on top of pizza - when it comes to hard trance, this is what indulgence looks like!
