Coldburn are a hardcore band from Leipzig, which has been active since 2009 and caused a sensation with their first demo 2010 on Powertrip Records. After a multitude of shows, her EP "Hybris" was released on Worship Records in 2011, which was a huge step forward and put her on the map of the hardcore scene for the first time in Europe. It's 2007: US post-hardcore legends BOYSETSFIRE have just announced their dissolution in big words. As soon as the last chord of the farewell show has faded away, singer Nathan Gray begins to write songs on the acoustic guitar for his long-awaited solo album. But just before it's time to record it, the courage leaves him: He thinks he's not ready for a solo career and is looking for the sheltering haven of a band. In a very short time he gathered his sister-in-law Darby DiNatale (keyboard/vocals) and BOYSETSFIRE Roadie as well as later bass player Chris Rakus. Even his former guitarist Josh Latshaw can be persuaded to join the project, which is now called THE CASTING OUT. After the musical and content-related weight of the oversized predecessor band, THE CASTING OUT is supposed to do one thing above all else: make fun - on and in front of the stage. Gray leaves the political statements behind him for the first time since 1994 and dedicates himself completely to the everyday problems and his turbulent love life. A demo with eight songs, named after the band, is created immediately, which is burned on CD by the band and sold in handmade covers at the first local shows. Musically, it is the intersection of the song ideas originally composed by Gray, mostly acoustically, the love for emocore heroes like Samiam and the keyboard-driven pop of the late Get Up Kids. Shortly after the recordings Latshaw leaves the band for health reasons and sets the tone for the band's history. Two albums and several successful European tours later and almost weekly line-up changes, Gray will throw in the towel after three turbulent years in 2010 and put THE CASTING OUT to rest in favour of a reunion of BOYSETSFIRE. Nevertheless, the barely available and since 2007 sold-out eight songs of the demo EP enjoy cult status, and when the song "Prey" in a slightly modified version even makes it to the BOYSETSFIRE comeback album "While A Nation Sleeps" in 2013, the enthusiasm among the fans is great. Ten years after its original release, the THE CASTING OUT EP will be officially available for the first time worldwide via END HITS RECORDS on December 1,2017. On the occasion of the release, Nathan Grey remembers the birth of his band:"This EP was actually my first solo attempt. I had an almost endless catalogue of acoustic songs that I had written alone at home and an overwhelming desire to let them out into the world. At that time I thought I was going to do it all by myself, but as my ideas grew bigger and my self-confidence diminished, I began to add other pieces and parts that should be played by other musicians. Orange County's hardcore powerhouse STICK TO YOUR GUNS have announced their new album and released a new song. The record is called 'True View', and it's out October 13 via End Hits Records. "Something I see in a lot of people, including almost every one of my peers, is the inability to be honest with oneself," says vocalist Jesse Barnett, about the lyrics. "Everyone thinks they're right. Everyone can't seem to get a grip on the reality of being self-aware. I was this way and I'm sure I still can be. I was an incredibly selfish person who did whatever I felt like doing. I would leave a trail of destruction everywhere I went and my loved ones would always give me the pass - 'Oh well, that's Jesse.'" "I came to a point where I realized no one is going to keep me accountable for my actions but myself. I lost some of the most important things in my life these last few years and I had nowhere left to hide. I had to face my fire. I had to finally, for fucking once, live with the hurt I created." "I had to own my mistakes and it's been the heaviest weight I've ever had to carry." As for the album as a whole, it was, "inspired by innumerable conversations that I had with my mother during the hardest couple of years I've had in my life. The people I lost in my life, the mental and physical challenges I faced, as well as losing myself. I don't know if it was getting older or the foundation I had built my life on cracking beneath my feet or a mixture of everything." "I had just hit a point where I was forced to take inventory of who I was. Truly. Not the person I thought I was or the person I wanted to be, but the actual person I was." "I had to face my own pain and the pain I caused others. In this time, much like my entire life, my mother was my guiding light. Through the patience, advice and guidance she offered me, I was able to navigate to a place of enlightenment or at the very least a place of better understanding." "I'm still not the person I hope to one day be but I now feel confident in myself to make decisions and guide myself to that place of peace within myself." "Regardless of how anyone feels about this record, all I can say it that it was necessary. It had to be written and I'm glad it was." "I really wanted to intentionally create an album that sonically reflects the feeling of modern life: depression, anger, fear, hope, happiness, forgiveness and clarity," added guitarist Josh James. "A feeling of breaking through the dark shit in life and the journey of the struggle that ends up elevating you to a new, smarter, stronger, better version of yourself. Things really clicked when Jesse started tracking vocals. The lyrics and feeling he put into each song constantly blew me away, his words were the perfect fit to the songs." But with even a bit of experience in the Underground-Hardcore-Scene, one absolutely has to classify Open City as a true all-star-unit. On their self-titled debut album the four piece - with members Dan Yemin (Paint It Black, Lifetime, Kid Dynamite), Andy Nelson (Ceremony, Paint It Black), Rachel Wilson (Bridge & Tunnel, Worriers) and Chris Wilson (Ted Leo & The Pharmacists) - merges the influences of their respective main acts, blending them into a vibrant and pissed-off profile of American Hardcore. ,For Shame" f.e. combines menacing midtempo staccato riffs and Wilson's diverse vocals with lyrics about degrading pick-up lines. In ,Black Veils" Wilson channels a rougher version of the Post-Hardcore of her former band Bridge & Tunnel, while ,Brother, I'm Getting Nowhere" amalgamates 90s-Melodic-Hardcore-Grooves with dynamic doubletime outbursts, reminiscent of Lifetime or Paint It Black. The varied record was produced by underground-icon Will Yip (Nothing, Citizen, Title Fight, Pianos Become The Teeth), helping the band to achieve a rough yet very defined sound.
