Nadja return on November 4th with The Stone Is Not Hit By The Sun, Nor Carved With a Knife - their first release for Gizeh Records. The Canadian/Berlin-based ambient doom duo of Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff continue their ultra-prolific output with a monolithic record which explores the depths of heavy noisescape-related music. Encompassing distorted riffs and hypnotic rhythms the album sonically attempts to continue on from the more structured elements of the duos recent Queller album, coupling that approach with Nadjas more traditional sprawling, dense and challenging sounds. The relentless fuzzed-out textures repeat and build into a blissful and cathartic whole - a place to be completely immersed. In the deep, glacial and all-consuming world that Baker and Buckareff provide us with here, there is a will to dissolve, to let the record wash right over you or perhaps even through you. At times crushingly beautiful, Stone, Sun, Knife is brought to life by its clever restraints with quieter interludes serving a perfect purpose against its more intense, heavier moments. The albums intriguing title comes from a runic inscription on an Icelandic burial stone but the phrase also appears on the Eggja Stone which provided some of the lyrical content on the record. Nadja have a habit of transcending genres and indeed throughout their career they have been incredibly difficult to pin down. French composer and Ondes Martenot virtuoso, Christine Ott releases her first full-length album since 2009 and her debut record for Gizeh Records. Nor does she settle on one musical style: she is working with an ever-present passion to shuffle the cards. Ott has been an integral part of Yann Tiersen's experimental band for the past ten years, contributing on both recorded material and live shows alongside a vast amount of other work for theatre, film and dance. Last Harbour return with Paler Cities, a 7" vinyl release for Gizeh Records which marks the follow-up to 2015's raw and brooding Caul album. Maintaining the high standards set by Caul, these two new tracks are a more direct version of Last Harbour's signature form, leaning towards a more stripped back, less textured post-punk sound. K Craig's voice echoes and cascades through duelling guitars and metronomic beats on the lead track before giving way to slower tones and late-night melody on The Curved Road, augmented by electric pianos, synths and simple percussion. These new tracks show a progressive band in full force, tapping into themes of city dislocation, mazes and traps. They expertly navigate the intimate and the expansive and document a band still growing, changing and connecting. Paler Cities is released April 1st on limited edition 7" vinyl complete with two additional bonus, digital-only tracks. Last Harbour tour Europe this April in support of the new single. Last Harbour are a Manchester-based collective who have released six full-length albums and a whole host of other material over their existence.
