Sina Vodjani родился в 1954 в Персии, а детство провел в Тегеране, Сан-Франциско и Париже, где он брал уроки вокала и игры на гитаре. За этим последовали частные занятия по классу гитары и фортепьяно в Гамбурге и два года на композиторском отделении.
Поиски новых музыкальных форм привели Sina Vodjani в Индию, Непал и Тибет, где он плотно занялся изучением различных музыкальных истоков и традиций, а также овладел ситаро. Ответы на свои вопросы он получал, объединяя контрастирующие музыкальные элементы, смешивая восточные и западные мотивы с фламенко, французской и индийской речью, и из этой гармонии, этого музыкального космополитизма, черпал свое вдохновение и духовные силы.
На этот альбом Sina Vodjani вдохновили духовные наставники Мата Амританандамай и Его Святейшество, 17 Кармапа. "Эти люди изменили мою жизнь, - говорит музыкант. - Своей музыкой я всегда пытался донести до людей свет, мир, надежду и благословение. Ему удалось увести с собой своих учеников и унести наиболее драгоценные реликвии, спасая, таким образом, учение традиции Карма Кагью. Спустя одиннадцать лет после его смерти был найден мальчик по имени Тхайе Дордже, в котором Далай Лама узнал реинкарнацию 16 Кармапы.

Key producer of early South African house music and kwaito Professor Rhythm is the production moniker of South African music man Thami Mdluli. Throughout the 1980's, Mdluli was member of chart-topping groups Taboo and CJB, playing bubblegum pop to stadiums. Mdluli became an in-demand producer for influential artists (like Sox and Sensations, among many others) and in-house producer for important record companies like Eric Frisch and Tusk. During the early '80s, Mdluli projects usually featured an instrumental dance track. These hot instrumentals became rather popular. Fans demanded to hear more of these backing tracks without vocals, he says, so Mdluli began to make solo instrumental albums in 1985 as Professor Rhythm. He got the name before the recordings began, from fans, and positive momentum from audiences and other musicians drove him to invest himself in a full-on solo project. It was the era just before the end of apartheid and house music hadn't taken over yet. There wasn't instrumental electronic music yet in South Afric a. As the '80s came to a close, that was about to change. Professor Rhythm productions mirror the evolution of dance music in South Africa. They grew out of the bubblegum mold - which itself stems from band's channeling influences like Kool &
the Gang and the Commodores - into something based on music for the club. His early instrumental recordings First Time Around and Professor 3 mostly distilled R&B, mbaqanga and bubblegum grooves into vocal-less pieces for the dance floor. Musically, these were a success and commercially the albums all went gold. There were countless bubblegum albums flooding the marketplace, with nearly disposable vocalists backed by mostly similar-sounding rhythm tracks. Most of the lyrical content was light and apolitical. But the keyboards used formed the musical basis for what would come next. By the time Professor 4 and this recording Bafana Bafana - the name references South Africa's national soccer team - were released in the mid-1990s, k waito had fully emerged. Access to instruments and freedom of expression helped its rise in influence among youth. According to Mdluli, "Once Mandela was released from prison and people felt more free to express themselves and move around town, kwaito was becoming the thing." Lyrically, kwaito championed the local township lingo while adapting "international music," house music, into the local context. "International Music," as house music and early kwaito were interchangeably known, in many ways reflects the sounds coming from America. But South Africans made it their own. Today, the largest part of the music industry is occupied by house music and its relatives.

The Orchestre Les Mangelepa is one of the most famous original bands of the East African rumba, also known as Rumba Lingala. It was founded about four decades ago by exiled Congolese in Kenya. At that time, in the 70s and 80s, the formation released hit after hit and conquered the dance floors of Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya in a storm. It was the golden age of rumba. Bands like Orchestre Les Mangelepa, Super Mazembe or Viva Makale inspired the people with relaxed rhythms and three-part vocal harmonies. For years, the orchestra, always elegantly dressed, performed as a house band in the largest hotels in Nairobi. Despite the great success, the band around the three singers Kabila Kabanze, Kalenga Nzaze Vivy and Luthuli Kaniki Maky never earned much money with their music. The reason: music piracy. Thus the band almost disappeared into the pit. But only almost, because she never stopped performing. She is the "Last Band Standing" and still plays the classic rumba sound that sets every dance floor in motion - even if it is populated by a much younger audience.

Powerful voice from Iran (Or: Messenger of hope) Marjan Vahdat from Iran has got a powerful voice. Together with her sister Mahsa she has conquered the world for Persian singing. On her second solo album, she has started a cooperation with an international ensemble. Here four eminent musicians take part, each of them from four different countries. From Palestine: Ahmad Al Khatib on oud, from Turkey: Ertan Tekin on duduk, from Norway: Gjermund Silset on bass and from Iran: Ali Rahimi on percussion. Marjan is prevented from performing on stages in her homeland, because since the revolution in 1979 it has been forbidden for female singers to perform for men in Iran. This has forced both Marjan and her sister Mahsa to make their career internationally. Then it helps a lot to have an exceptional voice which defies borders of both language and culture. Marjan has made a remarkable impression on stages in many European countries, in the US, Australia, North Africa and in several countries in the Middle East outside of Iran. Of course, even people from Iran know her voice and can get access to it through the internet. Every track is sparkling on this production, and the musicians create an energetic oriental soundscape around the mighty voice of Marjan. The project gives new interpretations to classical poems from the Persian folk tradition and from some contemporary poets like Forough Farrokhzad and Mohammad Ebrahim Jafari. The poems are about love and hope, and the title of the album, ”Serene Hope” indicates that hope is still alive against all odds. The recording happened in Maridalen church in Oslo, with Martin Abrahamsen controlling the sound and with Mahsa Vahdat and Erik Hillestad being the producers.

Say You Love Me wasn't "Om" Alec Khaoli's first solo recording but the 1985 EP solidified the bass player and songwriter's standing as one of South Africa's most consistently innovative pop auteurs. He built a career on ubiquitous rock, pop and soul hits with groundbreaking bands like the Beaters, Harari and Umoja. But Khaoli's seemingly endless fountain of music continued outside these ensembles, where he usually played bass and contributed songwriting and vocals. Khaoli released several successful solo works while he made records with Umoja and worked on other productions with friends. This creativity was aided by Khaoli's own recording studio. He was the first South African to have a privately-owned studio. As black artists were forced to record during lunch breaks and didn't get sufficient access and time in the white-owned studios, having his studio allowed Khaoli to develop in his own way. Hence his productive output during the 80's and early 90's, releasing 5 LPs with Umoja and 5 solo LPs, along with numerous singles and EPs. There's something broad and dynamic about the almost epic pop sound Khaoli creates on Say You Love Me. Being the first South African to take control his recording process and thereby free himself from one of apartheid's many strictures, he took his vision of music to new realms and made timeless music for the dance floor in the process.

Trad.Attack! "Shimmer Gold" invites you on a journey to the mystical Estonian nature, traditions and people where old and new collide and spark. Together with Trad.Attack sprouted a magic tree that has grown with a magnificent speed and now the time has come for the tree to bear golden fruit. In the beginning of 2014, when Trad.Attack! was born, we didn’t have great plans for the future, but after our first concert in Estonia everything started to develop rapidly. In three years we have released two albums, performed and travelled in many places from Chile to South-Korea, given big concerts in Estonia, received many music awards and started building an international career. Of course, this hasn’t happened by itself – behind these achievements are many wonderful people and lots hard work. In the songs of this album we reflect on all these adventures, challenges, people, emotions and thoughts that have affected our lives. Our new album “Shimmer Gold” was born as a symbiosis in which the band members have grown together and opened themselves up thanks to their rapid success. All this has given meaning to our existence and with this understanding we have become much more confident and conscious. And so has our music! The key word for compiling the new album was time. We have had time to let the music carry us, to focus on individual songs as well as the whole. New album features 12 tracks inspired by Estonian folk music intertwined with original compositions. It puts together fast rhythms inviting to dance as well as dreamy, touching tunes. We go on using archival recordings of unique and charismatic folk singers. As a special guest, actor Aivar Tommingas gave his voice to one of our tunes. Traditional songs tell about inviting to working bee, love, animals and a magical tree.
