Mark Benecke is not only Germany's best-known criminal biologist, vampire expert and insect enthusiast, but also a confessed Leonard Cohen aficionado - and this is why he requested two Cohen covers for his most recent musical collaboration with Bianca Stücker. No sooner said than done: Stücker - multi-instrumentalist and already tried and tested as a duet partner - produced two completely individual, delicate versions of "Chelsea Hotel No. 2" and "Master Song", adding hammered dulcimer, harpsichord, nyckelharpa, rauschpfeife, recorders and bowed psaltery to their deeply moving vocals and many delicate other details. In the EP's intro, "You Want It Darker", and also in the "Alchemical Strings Remix", dark electronics lend a strong dance element to the fragile sound. Last but not least, the EP contains magnificent remixes by two illustrious bands: OOMPH! and Patenbrigade: Wolff deliver their very own interpretation of the songs in their characteristic sound. WE WANT IT DARKER has become a timeless bow to the eclectic poet Cohen - a feast for every listener with a penchant for the abysmal!
