Finland has always been a good breeding ground for metal of all sorts. Curimus is the next band in a line of talented bands from the icy north. After four demos they now surface with a debut full length, full of thrash/ melodic death metal. They are not treading on new grounds but the band oozes an aggression and attitude that is commendable and the songs are quite strong. The guitarsound sometimes reminds me of that notorious band Exhorder with their second album ‘The Law’. They plod along very heavy with plenty of room for guitar solos and the raw sounding voice of frontman Marko Silvennoinen fits perfectly in the whole musical picture. The eleven songs on ‘Realization’ have a clear beginning and end and are blessed with a good clear production, not very original but a pleasant listen. Too bad that the songs stay a little flat, they do not have those tiny little thorns that scratch your eardrums and let the music make a lasting impression but despite that this is a promising album.
