Your opinion of this will depend almost entirely on your opinion of Dragonforce. I Am I, see, are the new outfit from that band’s former frontman, ZP Theart. Sure, there are far fewer finger-flaying guitar histrionics here but if Theart’s almost-operatic soaring vocals got your heart racing before then prepare to get giddy. Pave the Way is a balls-out stomper that could easily be the soundtrack to slaying mythical beasts, and In the Air Tonight isn’t a Phil Collins cover but a battle song featuring the best guitar solo on the record. If Theart’s high-pitched pipes made you reach for your mental panic button though, stop reading and walk away. Ok, so stuff like the marching Dust 2 Dust might change your mind (terrible title though) but Event Horizon is mostly skyscraping stadium rock (never to be played in stadiums) for people that still cherish Bon Jovi and Scorpions.
