In anticipation of an upcoming full length album, ONEIROGEN releases the "Plenitude" EP. Over 5 songs spanning 22 minutes, "Plenitude" is a concise blast of intensity, featuring vivid contrasts between industrial noise and expansive ambient music, and a deeply personal dimension unheard on past releases. As ONEIROGEN (o-NI-ro-jen), Mario Diaz de Leon creates his own style of hallucinatory music. The project was initiated in 2012 with the release of "Hypnos", which garnered widespread acclaim among fans of experimental and heavy music for its varied and cinematic style, merging ethereal synths, brutal distortion, dark ambient and noise. This was followed in 2013 with "Kiasma", an intensification of the doom/black metal elements present on the debut. With its precise song structures and haunting integration of melody and texture, the album's drum-less distortion went far beyond the categories of "drone" and "ambient", into a style unique to the album. In the 2 years since the release of "Kiasma", Diaz de Leon has developed his sound through regular live appearances in the underground metal and experimental scenes of NYC. Lyrically, the songs draw from Diaz de Leon's personal experiences and spiritual work, confronting the inner crisis of a "dark night of the soul", the "shining blast" of a kundalini awakening, and an ode to the creative and destructive powers of an archetypal mother goddess. While previous releases used vocals and percussion sparingly, the tracks "Collapsing" and "Vessel" bring these elements closer to the forefront, alongside lacerating bursts of feedback and hypnotic synth riffs. The glacially expansive title track and polyrhythmic pulses of "Emergence" conclude the EP with a balance of mesmerizing stillness and pummeling aggression. Record Label: Denovali Style: Ambient

ONEIROGEN is Mario Diaz de Leon, a composer and multi-instrumentalist residing in NYC. "Hypnotic walls of shimmering sound" perhaps describe his aesthetic most broadly, whether his medium is electric guitar, electronics, or acoustic instruments. His influences include modern composition, underground metal, and noise electronics. "Hypnos" finds Diaz de Leon focused on his style of hallucinatory music. Far from being a follow up to 2009's "Enter Houses Of" (a genre defying album of new classical works), "Hypnos" is a new direction, merging ethereal synths, brutal distortion, noise, and dark ambient. The album takes its title from the Greek god of sleep (also closely associated with night, death, and dreams), and the music itself is an eerie descent into the otherwordly, recasting familiar elements in a revelatory new light. On the opening and closing tracks, hyper fast synth tones create a rushing, cathedral -like atmosphere. Tracks such as "Consumed", "Hypnocaust", and "Kukulkan" feature psychedelic, crushing distortion as their primary focus, taking influence from doom metal, black metal, power electronics, new age, and horror soundtracks. "Cinerum" and "Faithless" are highly structured takes on dark ambient, bringing the listener into haunting, strikingly beautiful realms of isolation, bleakness, and saturated noise textures. Further down the apocalyptic tunnel initiated on the LP "Hypnos", these 3 tracks of dark illumination from Oneirogen (aka Mario Diaz de Leon) were composed as a counterpart to the full length. We find again his characteristic synth and noise used to harrowing effect, full of dramatic textural shifts, while bringing the metallic guitar and voice more to the forefront. Like Hypnos, the overall structure evokes a narrative, suggesting a descent into a hallucinogenic abyss, followed by a requiem-like emergence.
