Joo Kraus certainly ranks among the most interesting protagonists on the younger German Jazz scene. His artistry has brought him into contact with audiences ranging far beyond those traditionally associated with the market niche. Let’s start off his role in the band Tab Two, recipients of the German Jazz Award; his playing on Wolfgang Schmid’s CD Special Kick, not to mention in his own groups; and substantiated through contributions as soloist and composer to such diverse projects as Omar Sosa, Paula Morelenbaum, De Phazz, or Jazzkantine . This trumpet player is always on the lookout for truly innovative sounds he can bring into fruitful alignment with the razor-sharp to smooth-as-velvet tones he coaxes out of his instrument. He has also gained acclaim for the no-bullshit attitude and up-to-dateness on the Rap elements interspersing many of his projects. Most recently the ECHO JAZZ winner 2012 has started a new trio with Brazilian Bossa Nova queen Paula Morelenbaum and pianist Ralf Schmid called Bossarenova Trio.
