Digipack. Hybrid club music for big soundsystems – that's the essence of Schlachthofbronx. On their fourth studio album Haul & Pull Up, the DJ and producer duo from Munich demonstrate how versatile a sound can be that is nonetheless deeply rooted in soundsystem culture and their various local offsprings. With the album name inspired by the seminal 1984 Haul And Pull Uptune by Neville Brown, Jakob and Benedikt pay their respects to the originators all the while clearly formulating a futuristic sound of their own with this new record. Having journalists (and info text writers) struggling to put a genre tag onto their music as a trademark, Schlachthofbronx effortlessly float through conventional style classifications and tempi in their tracks. In the same spirit, they take their vocal contributors and embedd them into a genre that might not have been your first guess when you look at the artists previous work. Warrior Queen, a dancehall artist most known for her intense early Dubstep anthem Poison Dartwith The Bug, ends up delivering her high energy clash lyrics on an 808 HipHop drum workout on Killer to a quite stunning effect. Riko Dan, the Grime MC of Roll Deep fame, finds himself spitting his Copper And Lead lyrics on a Dancehall riddim from outer space while Gonjasufi, the Warp-signed Rapper from San Diego, sings and screams his Goodbye on a beat that is reminiscent of drone metall - if it wasn't for that acid line. And even though this album is 100% club and soundsystem ready and probably will get the occasional rewind when played (haul & pull up – check!), this record goes way beyond that context. The dance imperatives from tunes like Pump Drop Wine with its disgustingly good sounding bassline, or from U Mad and its high fueled Footwork meets arpeggio madness...all that gets easily balanced by versatile productions like the dubby Blurred Vision or the floating Take It Low with Doubla J from Costa Rica on vocals. Plus you will even discover songs that have the potential to work as leftfield pop songs as well: On Bitch Better Have My Money, the guys have Otto von Schirach from Miami as a guest and indulge in their joint passion for all things Booty Bass, ending up with a fun and catchy (yet obviously x-rated) song. But maybe the highlight in this regard is Electone, an instrumental beauty of a song on which Jakob and Benedikt combine multiple layers of melodies with a propulsive beat, evoking feelings of melancholy, happiness and wanderlust until collapsing in a sweet conversation of steeldrum-not-steeldrums with the eponymous Electone organ from Yamaha. The Haul & Pull Up album will be available digitally and on a couple of stricty limited physical formats (CD, 3x12" vinyl bundle, cassette tape) via Rave And Romance Records/Disko B/Indigo. It’s the final release in the Haul & Pull Up series, which contained three EPs leading up to the album. Schlachthofbronx conclude their Haul & Pull Up series with another strong statement of an EP. In their trademark hybrid style, the Munich bass boys showcase their versatility from writing hypnotic and sensual electronic melodies all the way to the ruffest club weapons. Keeping close to their roots, all of these tunes have been extensively tested on big soundsystems to make sure they make a lasting impression. The opener Electone is an instrumental excursion into a melodic corner of club music, with lots of intertwined synth layers and a long build up, culminating in a break that will send shivers to ravers and home listeners alike. This “club love song with no words” is named after the Yamaha Electone organ it was written on. Following this is Take It Low, another true soundsystem weapon featuring longtime collabo partner Doubla J from Costa Rica. Stripped down to the basics, this bass monster combines both dancehall and booty bass rhythm structures and lets them collide with the well timed vocals while diving in some dubby goodness. Pump Drop Wine ups the tempo again, coming in at 150 bpm of ultimate rolling bassline heaven. With little more than the catchy meandering vocal to complement the beat, it is all about this disgustingly good sounding bassline that makes this a club sureshot. “This is the part where you pump drop wine and repeat.” Always good for a surprising collabo, Bene and Jakob finish this EP off with their quite special version of Bitch Better Have My Money (you know, the AMG one). With no other than Miamis finest Otto Von Schirach on vocals, this 1991 cut gets transported to an 2017 club enviroment with ease. Like a low, rolling thunder across the plains of the Midwest, Blanche has drifted from his Wichita, Kansas home across the United States back and forth countless times with Calamity cubes!, the 3 piece country band he fronted for many years. With the Cubes being described as 'country thrash', Blanche felt these 11 songs on his first self titled solo album, released on Broken Neck Records, needed a different treatment than normal. The listener finds themselves listening to just the man and his guitar, accompanied occasionally by a violin, mandolin, upright bass or mandolin. NEO NOIRE is the name of the new band founded by rock- and metal-masterminds Thomas Baumgartner (Ex-GurD, Erotic Jesus, Undergod) and Frederyk Rotter (Zatokrev, The Leaving, Crown). The lineup of the furious swiss rock outfit is completed by Franky Kalwies (ex-Disgroove) and David Burger (ex-Slag in Cullet). In autumn 2016, NEO NOIRE played their first gigs and finished the production of their new album ELEMENT, which will be released worldwide through Czar of Revelations on May 5th 2017. On April 28, Ryan Pollie will release his second album under the moniker of Los Angeles Police Department. The follow-up to the L.A.-based songwriter’s 2014 debut (also a self-titled effort), Los Angeles Police Department delivers homespun bedroom pop driven by confessional lyrics and beautifully downhearted melodies. “My favorite records are the ones that make me feel like I’m getting to know an artist,” says Pollie. “I love albums that sound like someone is telling me their deepest secrets.” Produced by Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado (Whitney, The Lemon Twigs) and mixed by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith, Foo Fighters), Los Angeles Police Department combines the melodic gambits of Randy Newman with the pop clarity of Paul McCartney, the fanciful ingenuity of Brian Wilson with the narrative acuity of Pete Townshend. Not only a creatively adventurous effort full of inventive flourishes, the album also daringly addresses suicide and addiction, anxiety and bereavement. “I think of this record as a coming-of-age story,” Pollie says. “You always think of coming-of-age stories as something that happens to kids, something like Stand By Me or Catcher in the Rye, but in my twenties I realized that I was always going to face this vulnerability and this anxiety. I’m never going to be that wise old person who’s cold-hearted and knows everything. So this record is about learning to face up to those fears and be emotionally responsible.” Newly signed to ANTI-, Los Angeles Police Department had a surprise hit in 2014 with “She Came Through (Again),” a bittersweet pop gem featured on his first full-length.
