For the better part of 15 years, Canada's PANZERFAUST have been steadily crafting some of the finest, most thought-provoking black metal. With their The Winds Will Lead Us... debut album in 2006 onward, their obsidian flower forever kept blossoming, culminating in 2013's pivotal Jevohah-Jireh: The Divine Anti-logos, which signaled a significant (and fortuitous) shift in the band's aesthetic. In 2016, PANZERFAUST released The Lucifer Principle EP, pushing their adventurous spirit yet further, perhaps most forecasted by the closing Johnny Cash cover. However, it was 2019's The Suns of Perdition - Chapter I: War, Horrid War where PANZERFAUST truly had their watershed moment. Released to widespread acclaim by EISENWALD, this staggering work brimmed with daring and dynamics - a kaleidoscopic fury, if you will - that vivaciously and viciously displayed a band hitting their creative peak. The album was the first chapter of the band's tetralogy examining the malign episodes of this past century, shining a light on difficult subject matter using a begrimed philosophical lens. The resulting synthesis is what George Orwell once described as [a vision of the future] "a boot stamping on a human face forever." Alas, PANZERFAUST waste no time in delivering the next chapter of that tetralogy - and equally keep a fever pitch to that creative peak - with the much-anticipated The Suns of Perdition II: Render Unto Eden. Recorded at BWC Studios with Greg Dawson and with mastering by Sergei Lazar at CDM Records, Render Unto Eden is an altogether more somber record: here do PANZERFAUST more fully work with light and shade, their darkness displaying far more hues than previously deemed imaginable. Whereas the five-song first chapter was taut 'n' terrorizing, The Suns of Perdition II likewise features five songs but in a more expansive 44-minute runtime. As such, massive vistas of molten melancholy unfold, the inexorable push-and-pull patient but persistent; layers upon layers of understanding are packed into each of these scintillating minutes. The violence is more carefully doled out, in kind, and the sum effect is nothing short of hypnotic, particularly the track "Promethean Fire," which features guest vocals from Maria Arkhipova of Russia's Arkona. The Opium Cartel is songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jacob Holm-Lupo’s vehicle for songs that exist somewhere between sophisti-pop, art-rock and synth pop. Holm-Lupo is otherwise known for his progressive rock band White Willow and more recently his instrumental giallo-rock project Telepath. The Opium Cartel’s 3rd album, Valor, is a record about naïve but brave dreams. These are songs about the hubris and optimism of childhood and youth. That period of life where everything seems sure to happen just the way you imagine: You will fall in love with the most beautiful girl in the world and she will love you back. You will become a pilot or an astronaut or defy gravity in some other way. You will explode into a world of color and wonder. You will never be disappointed or let down. You will take every risk without fear of failure. These are also songs about that bittersweet moment when you start to realize that things may be a little different than you imagined. Not all things, but some. Musically the album takes inspiration from a variety of predominantly 1980s sources, from The Blue Nile and Shriekback, via late Roxy Music to the prog-pop of 80s Alan Parsons Project and Camel. The period feel is amplified by Holm-Lupo’s use of exclusively hardware synthesizers iconic to the era, like the Oberheim Matrix-6 and Yamaha DX7.

Active initially from 1978 - 1986 and then from 1990 - 1995, they re notable for being Wino's first major band and an iconic outfit in the Maryland doom metal scene and the early doom metal scene as a whole. The band formed originally under the name Warhorse in 1976 in Potomac, Maryland, led by Wino and Mark Laue. In the late 1970s they became known as The Obsessed, performing frequently in Maryland and Washington. Later on the group moved into a band house in Rockville, Maryland where a lot of their material spanning through their existence had been written. Before the intended, original guitar player John Reese departed from the band. The band became a trio and remained that way until the early eighties (i.e., 1982) when Vance Bockis and later Norman Lawson joined the band. During this time they released the Sodden Jackal EP (Spring 1983) and had one track ("Concrete Cancer") featured on Metal Blade's "Metal Massacre VI" compilation. The Obsessed also managed to record their debut album in 1985 for Metal Blade, but it was never officially released. The Obsessed disbanded initially in early 1986 when Wino joined Saint Vitus. The band's final show of their initial run was on 23 November 1985 at The University of Maryland.

Blue black-marbeled vinyl. From the depth of Reykjavik in Iceland emerges NYRST with its blackened creation "ORSÖK", an album that pays homage to the band's grim and icy Icelandic heritage. With "ORSÖK", NYRST, which means "northernmost" in Icelandic, holds true to its name by delivering a debut album filled with a soundscape that is incredibly cold, stark and barren, whilst the lyrics come straight from old horror literature and are laced with cosmic undertones. Formed in the winter of 2013, NYRST released their first demo in 2016. The demo garnered praise for the band’s use of diverse vocals and chilling atmosphere, whilst NYRST’s mystical and haunting stage performances have gained them respect as a live band in the metal scene of their native Iceland.
