Andy Summers rose to fame in the early 1980’s as the guitarist of the multi-million record selling rock band - The Police. The Police were the number one band of the time and dominated the music scene and the media in the 80s with several number one records. Summers’ innovative guitar playing created a new paradigm for guitarists in this period and has been widely imitated ever since. Prior to the Police, Summers played with various bands in the London scene, including The Animals, Soft Machine, Kevin Coyne and Kevin Ayers. After the band’s dramatic exit from the music scene, Summers continued to develop his interest in photography as well touring, recording as a solo artist, composing for films (including 2010, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, The Wild Life and Weekend at Bernie's), writing books, and exhibiting his photography. Over the years, Summers has collaborated with many fellow musicians as well as a number of fellow-guitarists, including Robert Fripp, John Etheridge, Victor Biglione, Benjamin Verdery, Roberto Menescal , Fernanda Takai and Rodrigo Santos.. Triboluminescence: Triboluminescence is the follow up recording by Andy Summers to his 2016 release Metal Dog. In this latest release, Summers once again delves into the deep exotic textures which characterized Metal Dog saying that part of his quest is always to find fresh if not alien sounds that avoid all the standard electric guitar clichés. “We are now living in a world of a billion guitarists “he says “so the struggle to swim upstream, sound different and make original music has become more difficult, but then maybe that is a good challenge. I play for an audience of one – yours truly. Maybe it’s the music of narcissism-although that’s not how I think of it- but I have to end up with something that I like outside of commercial concerns - but if you in the game these days you face a barrage of likes and dislikes. Everyone is a critic now…”But if Summers takes a position on his music he proves it with the disparate exotic threads and lyricism heard on the tracks of Triboluminescence - generated from non-standard tunings – hammered guitars in tandem, looping , baritone guitar , terz guitar percussion and fretless bass and cello. Belgian chanteur Benjamin Schoos is a man of action, as his wonderful new best of compilation ably demonstrates. The 13 songs here represent the three albums he’s released under his real name since 2012: China Man vs Chinagirl (2012); Beau Futur (2014) and Night Music Love Songs (2016). During that time the musical pioneer has assumed the mantle of - among other kinetic occupations - a wrestler, an astronaut, a stuntman, an adventurer, and last but not least (though not strictly a job unless the world’s oldest profession is your métier) a lover. Profession chanteur is an album about doing from a singer who’s never simply been a singer. He’s not just an artist but an impresario, the founder and head honcho of Belgian label Freaksville (presiding over a musical family of unparalleled creativity), an in-demand producer, a radio show host, an actor, an illustrator and all-round Action Man to boot. Here though, we get - in full technicolor - Benjamin Schoos singer-songwriter par excellence. “Prolifique et romantique” said French weekly Les Inrocks recently, not to mention “un peu fou” (a little crazy). Schoos has also proved himself to be a songwriter of exceptional talent at a time when there’s a proliferation of solo artists, so many of them identikit and in thrall to chastening TV talent shows. The Seraing-born singer mines the chansons françaises populaires, the production values of Phil Spector and David Axelrod, the orchestral flourishes of Jean-Claude Vannier and the frisson of fabulous Gainsbourg duets from the 60s and 70s, and then turns it all into something new and distinctive. His solo career thus far has taken us through a conceptual martial arts journey, a thrilling space odyssey and the amorous mise-en-scene of his last offering, Night Music Love Songs; the lush strings and cupid harps of ‘Je ne vois que vous’ and its divine sequel ‘Derniere danse’ (both with Laetitia Sadier), the lushly resplendent and atmospheric ‘Une fille on or’ and ‘Un parfum de nostalgie’, via the art deco futuristic fantasies of ‘La grande aventure’ and ‘Le cascadeur’. Other highlights include a duet with April March (‘J'ai essayé de t'aimer’) and the inimitable wrestling chanson ‘Profession catcheur’, from which the compilation takes its titular inspiration. Naturally this is not au revoir or le fin, it is as much a collection of thoughts as it is a collection of Schoos’ finest solo moments so far. Tormentor was formed in 2006 by Max Seipke, when he was 12 years old. Together with producer Evil (Evil Studios) they recorded the first demo, Lesson In Aggression, in 2007, which was released in the following year. Shortly after the release, Thomas Wedemeyer became the new drummer of the band. With the demo and some new songs they took over the road as a two-pieced band for the next two years. The demo received good feedback, but the biggest compliment came from Kreator mastermind Mille Petrozza, as he praised the band in a radio station interview. In the year 2010 the band went into the studio, once again with producer Evil, to record their debut album, Violent World. After the recording was done, Christian Schomber on bass and Kevin Hauch on the rhythm guitar became new members of the band. Violent World was released in 2012 via Iron Shield Records. Following the release they toured through Saxony, Brandenburg and Poland and established their name in the underground scene. 2013 and 2014 there mostly used for writing new songs, which were recorded at the end of 2016.
