With a name like Carcharodon and an album entitled “Roachstomper” you’d think you know what you’re getting- deathly growls and shredded guitars that could only sound good on mute. But no, these lads give way to something that isn’t half bad all the while adding a bit of humour as they slash their way through the sea of badly tuned guitars. “Pig Squeal Nation”, “Adolf Yeti” and “Marylin Monrhoid” are amongst the best on the album. They are the legacy the likes of Misfits have left behind. Rather than leeching off the Misfits sound completely, they’ve morphed the horror-themes into a sound they can call their own. The Carcharodon sound reminisces in horror-punk, but there’s a whole new stoner-rock level here. The drums compliment the guitar and bass line in a way that in no way could be classed as elegant, but it works. What’s more these guys really know how to work their country influences. With a country groove that would make the likes of Willie Nelson jealous, this western infused swag makes it all the more enticing for a good headbanging session. So pump up your speakers and infuse yourself with a bit of “haha” and groovy guitar riffs because this is what Carcharodon stands for. Don’t be fooled by their name, they’re not not your average death metal band, they’re something way more and it comes to no suprise that they’re starting to make a name for themselves.
