DELUXE VINYL EDITION!!! Formed in Pasadena, CA in 1972, between 1974 and 1985 Van Halen had a consistent lineup featuring lead guitarist Eddie Van Halen, vocalist David Lee Roth, drummer Alex Van Halen, and bassist Michael Anthony. Van Halen, of course, became a major rock act, and by the early 1980s they were one of the most successful bands ever. 1984, released on Warner Bros on 9th January that year, was their most successful album, with its lead single ‘Jump’ becoming an international hit which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. But Halen weren’t always such a successful collective of musicians. Indeed, their roots were humble, and for the first six years of their existence they remained release-free, a situation that was only redressed in 1978 upon the issuing of their self-titled debut. The three shows featured on this fascinating Double LP come from their early years, when the group was still playing the clubs and high schools of LA. Recorded for FM broadcast at The Golden West Ballroom and The Starwood Club in 1976, and including too a couple of numbers from La Cañada High School in November 1975, these rare recordings will undoubtedly take pride of place in every decent Halen collection across the world. RADIO BROADCAST RECORDING FROM SMASHING PUMPKINS ADORE TOUR Recorded following the death of Billy Corgan's mother, and in the wake of his divorce, 1998's Adore represented a significant change of style from the Smashing Pumpkins' previous guitar-based rock, veering into electronica. The record, cut with assistance from drum machines and studio drummers including Matt Walker from Filter, was infused with a darker aesthetic than much of the band's earlier work. The group also modified its public image, shedding its alternative rock look for a more subdued appearance. Although Adore received favourable reviews and was nominated for Best Alternative Performance at the Grammy Awards, the album had only sold about 830,000 copies in the United States by the end of the year. It nonetheless sold three times as many copies overseas. The band began a seventeen-date, fifteen-city charity North American tour in support of Adore. At each stop on such, the band donated 100 percent of tickets sales to a local charity organization. The Pumpkins also played 14 dates overseas and in Canada, one of which, on 19th of July, was at the Chum City Building in Toronto, the headquarters of Bell Media. This CD features the full show the Smashing Pumpkins performed at this venue on the date in question, where they put on an extraordinary gig, including cuts from the new record alongside a host of tracks from previous albums. Included too as bonus cuts on this CD, two tracks from the Smashing Pumpkins set at Neil Young s Bridge School Benefit show from the previous year, when they performed alongside Marilyn Manson.

SMASHING PUMPKINS RARE LIVE UNPLUGGED BROADCAST PERFORMANCES Formed in 1988 in Chicago by Billy Corgan (lead vocals, guitar), D'arcy Wretzky (bass guitar), James Iha (guitar), and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums), The Smashing Pumpkins disavowed the punk ethic of many of their alt-rock contemporaries, developing quickly a diverse, densely layered, and guitar-heavy sound, containing elements of gothic rock, heavy metal, dream pop, psychedelia, prog, shoegazing, and, in later recordings, electronica. With Corgan as the group's primary songwriter with his musical ambitions and cathartic lyrics, he shaped the band's albums and songs, which have been described as "anguished and bruised, straight from Billy Corgan's nightmares". The Pumpkins broke into the mainstream with their second album, 1993 s Siamese Dream; the release reached No.10 on the Billboard chart and eventually sold over 5 million copies in the US alone. In support of the record the band toured extensively and performed for the cameras too on a number of occasions, largely playing Unplugged and fully acoustic at such events. This CD collects together a number of these acoustic performances, recorded for live transmission during 1993, which illustrates just how strong the Pumpkins compositions are, that in a stripped down live setting they have the same dynamic force as in their original studio versions. Bonus cuts here, feature a further acoustic performance from 1991, recorded while the band were promoting their debut, Gish.

DELUXE VINYL EDITION!!! Bookends, the fourth of five Simon & Garfunkel albums to be released during their initial tenure, came out in April 1968 to rapturous critical reception and substantial sales. The record took the Best Album Grammy at the 1969 ceremony and has remained to be seen as the duo’s breakthrough set, containing as it does ‘Mrs. Robinson’. Paul and Art had been performing sporadically during the early months of ’68, with odd shows on both coasts of the US during January and February, and three gigs in the UK during early March. EARLY 1970s BROADCAST RECORDING FROM PROCOL HARUM, FEATURING ROBIN TROWER FOR THE LAST TIME Formed in 1967 from the ashes of Gary Brooker and Robin Trower s mid-sixties R N B group, The Paramounts, Procol Harum shot to fame with their first single, the majestic Whiter Shade Of Pale, which reached no.1 on the UK and Canadian singles charts, and no.5 on the US Billboard Hot 100; the record reached similar heights in most of continental Europe too. The band, which also featured organist Matthew Fischer and lyricist Keith Reid, released a number of successful albums in the late sixties, but by 1971 Fisher has already left the line-up and Trower was itching to begin a solo-career. His final album with the group, Broken Barricades, was recorded during February and March 71, and between its completion and its release in June, Procol Harum performed a number of dates across Europe and on the East coast of the US. One of the finest shows they performed during this time was at New York s A & R Studios, on 12th April. The gig was broadcast live by WPLJ FM, and is now available for the first time on this CD. Bonus tracks here come from another broadcast recording the band made in December the same year, for Beat Club in Germany.
