On stage, they create an instrumental mantra of spooky guitars, modified field recordings and eery sampled chants. These meditative build-ups, based on the perseverant element of repetition, are contrasted with and ripped apart by sudden, unforeseeable outbursts of the purest and sheerest heaviness. The black Nazgûl-robes and golden masks that all Briqueville members wear on stage give theirpresence the air of an occult ritual... but Briqueville are not chasing (a) GHOST; in fact they have worn their masks for 10 years plus, and even do so during rehearsals. The anonymity creates equality, and prevents a cult of personality... and makes it easier to swap out band members without anyone noticing. It wasn't until 2014 that BRIQUEVILLE released their self-titled debut album, four tracks that all conclude around the 10 minutes mark. Upon release, the band buried 20 copies at various locations across the country, and gradually released the coordinates on their facebook page, animating fans to dig them up from the soil. The idea was met with great enthusiasm among their quickly growing fanbase, and will be revisited and extended for the release of Briqueville's mesmerizing 2nd album, aptly titled ,II", which is to be released now! Founded in 2009 by THE OCEAN guitarist Robin Staps, PELAGIC RECORDS has become an increasingly vital outlet for modern progressive metal, post-metal and beyond", ROCK-A-ROLLA wrote last year in their PELAGIC RECORDS label feature, and German Prog magazine ECLIPSED added that PELAGIC has established itself as "one of the most influential labels" in the realm ofpost metal, post rock and prog. This compilation showcases the entire Pelagic Records roster, from well-established acts such as MONO, CULT OF LUNA or PG.LOST to newcomers such as HYENAS or New Zealand's SPOOK THE HORSES, who contribute an exclusive track to this release - a track which will make your mouth water for their upcoming full-length album "People Used To Live Here", due for a fall 2017 release. CULT OF LUNA's "Nord" has been previously only released on the "Eternal Music" vinyl LP and the "Eviga Riket" audio book. Another exclusive track comes from Staps' own band THE OCEAN. "Turritopsis Dohrnii" is the band's first output since their 2015 "Transcendental" - split EP with Japan's post rock legends MONO, which inaugurated the PELAGIC SPLIT SERIES - later to be followed by editions featuring exclusive contributions by CULT OF LUNA & THE OLD WIND, TINY FINGERS & EF and recently, LLNN & WOVOKA. While the compilation's first disc, "In The Twilight...", focuses on the more calm, post-rock oriented side of the label, the second disc, "... These Rocks Have Teeth" dives deep down into the realm of dark and epic heavy music that the label has become known and loved for, throughout their catalogue of now over 90 releases. Sydney's post-rock trailblazers sleepmakeswaves have announced a massive start to 2017 with a plethora of tour dates and the quite sudden news that their third album Made of Breath only will be released Friday March 24th through Pelagic Records! Tundra is the pummelling first taste of this release, which was recorded and produced by Nick DiDia (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, PEARL JAM, KARNIVOOL): ,A masterful riseand- fall of breathless riffs and breathtaking atmosphere, the track pivots on scintillating guitars and epic climaxes towards a reflective final act", Australia's only commercial rock radio station Triple J, where the track was premiered, commented. During a recent reddit AMA, bassist/keyboard player Alex Wilson described the third sleepmakeswaves opus as having the "uptempo pace and intensity" of their previous album "but there are more straight-up riffs and overall, it's angrier, sadder, and heavier." In late 2016, the band put out a call to fans to help raise funds for their third album and a world tour through pre-orders via Australian crowdfunding site Pozible. They raised over $40,000 to cover the remaining costs of producing the record, which follows 2014's ARIA-nominated & J Awardnominated Love of Cartography. In February, the band will kick off their touring as main support for reunited post-hardcore veterans UNDEROATH at a series of sold out theatre shows around Australia.
