Prior to being a member of Bread with whom he enjoyed numerous Hot 100 hits in the early 70s, David Gates had a music career that stretched back to 1957. He was a very well respected session musician who quickly stepped up to be both an arranger and producer. A singer in his own right; he was also a prolific songwriter. For the first time, we are bringing together the best of these songs ( as a songwriter),from the golden years of 1962 through 1967. They include many girl group and northern soul rarities. Most of these rare 60s gems make their CD debut This set is headlined by his biggest song of the 60s: the Murmaids' " Popsicles And Icicles" and continues with the best and rarest of the songs David Gates wrote in the 60s, from 1962 - 1967, as performed by the Crickets, the Lettermen, Johnny Crawford, Ann-Margret, Shelley Fabares, Connie Stevens, Jody Miller, Merry Clayton and many more. Accompanied by a 32 page booklet, featuring liner notes for all tracks and a David Gates' career perspective from noted rock historian, Brian Gari.
