Rather than top hits, Keene takes on some heavy hitters: the Rolling Stones, the Who, the Bee Gees, but apart from Donovan's "Catch the Wind" none of Excitement's 11 tracks ever troubled the U.S. singles chart. This album largely about the artist's personal musical inspiration. Keene pays tribute to his aforementioned British Invasion heroes, but also his East Coast punk/new wave roots with covers of Television and Mink Deville. On a more contemporary note, he also tips his hat to Keene Brothers partner Robert Pollard with a cover of Guided By Voices' "Choking Tara." Debut album by The Fuzz, a new Memphis band made up of Hector Bobo, Steve Selvidge, Tom Jones and Jeff Dutton. This record by Memphis-based The Fuzz is the result of a long standing conflict between two brothers. Basically, after a heated argument, Hector Bobo told his brother Harlan T: "You think you're so great, well you're not the only one who can make a record!" Although no one in Memphis has ever even seen these two together in one place, no one seems to doubt this actually happened. Hector gathered up his two friends, Tom Jones and Jeff "Bunny" Dutton, and went out to prove his boast. These two had a long history of terrorizing the good folk of the USA. In bands like Action Family and Dog, the two had proven that they could drunkenly play anywhere. Somehow these three miscreants talked local guitar virtuoso Steve Selvidge into playing bass. They then rebuilt a Teac 4-Track, bought some tape and recorded this record. Steve did a great job of holding the band together, Hector yelled out the songs like he meant it, and Doug Easely mixed it and mastered it. You will find some fine examples of American rock & roll on this record. A few of them, Teen Rex, Somebody Like You and Merry-Go-Round, could even be played on the radio. A big thanks goes to The Hold Steady for allowing Steve Selvidge the time to work on this project (Bassist Sweet Jean holds down the bass line for live shows). Thanks Jeannie Style: Garage Rock

Some people have amazing stories to tell. Some people can't think of one. I've never been to rehab, I don't have famous parents, I actually did well in high school (I even went to college), never lived on the street or in my car, not from some exotic or remote place, I've never been into suicide--I'm not even on anti-depressants (but actually | probably should be). Nevertheless, I still can't get enough of writing songs and making records. I guess it's something I was just born with. Unlike most children, my parents said I used to sing and dance around tne nouse all the time. I started playing the piano at five months old, and I started singing at six months. My dad used to put me on his lap and I would bang on tne keys. And now look at me. For my third solo endeavor I decided to try a minimalist approach. What would happen, I thought, if I tried to restrain myself. Well the answer is that I would forget that was ever my intention and I would just add and add and accumulate and accumulate. But that's just a metaphor for my life. I like to have as many things around me at all times. No one is allowed to sit next to me in the van because I need space for my piles of trash and clothes and activities.But in all seriousness, here is my record called "Human" and it is actually very serious. When I go out into the world I am like a clown, but my records are me crying on the inside.
