First time on vinyl -Key producer of early South African house music and kwaito Professor Rhythm is the production moniker of South African music man Thami Mdluli. Throughout the 1980's, Mdluli was member of chart-topping groups Taboo and CJB, playing bubblegum pop to stadiums. Mdluli became an in-demand producer for influential artists (like Sox and Sensations, among many others) and in-house producer for important record companies like Eric Frisch and Tusk. During the early '80s, Mdluli projects usually featured an instrumental dance track. These hot instrumentals became rather popular. Fans demanded to hear more of these backing tracks without vocals, he says, so Mdluli began to make solo instrumental albums in 1985 as Professor Rhythm. He got the name before the recordings began, from fans, and positive momentum from audiences and other musicians drove him to invest himself in a full-on solo project. It was the era just before the end of apartheid and house music hadn't taken over yet. There wasn't instrumental electronic music yet in South Afric a. As the '80s came to a close, that was about to change. Professor Rhythm productions mirror the evolution of dance music in South Africa. They grew out of the bubblegum mold - which itself stems from band's channeling influences like Kool &
the Gang and the Commodores - into something based on music for the club. His early instrumental recordings First Time Around and Professor 3 mostly distilled R&B, mbaqanga and bubblegum grooves into vocal-less pieces for the dance floor. Musically, these were a success and commercially the albums all went gold. There were countless bubblegum albums flooding the marketplace, with nearly disposable vocalists backed by mostly similar-sounding rhythm tracks. Most of the lyrical content was light and apolitical. But the keyboards used formed the musical basis for what would come next. By the time Professor 4 and this recording Bafana Bafana - the name references South Africa's national soccer team - were released in the mid-1990s, k waito had fully emerged. Access to instruments and freedom of expression helped its rise in influence among youth. According to Mdluli, "Once Mandela was released from prison and people felt more free to express themselves and move around town, kwaito was becoming the thing." Lyrically, kwaito championed the local township lingo while adapting "international music," house music, into the local context. "International Music," as house music and early kwaito were interchangeably known, in many ways reflects the sounds coming from America. But South Africans made it their own. Today, the largest part of the music industry is occupied by house music and its relatives.

DOWNLOAD-CARD It was only a matter of time before Stéphane Grégoire - artistic director of the label - regained his now well-known desire to bring about improbable meetings between artists he really likes. This new project goes by the name of Orchard and is in the succession of This Immortal Coil and Numbers Not Names. These projects are quite apart in the label's catalogue and could be described as daring bets with one simple objective - to give life to an intuitive idea. At the end of October 2016, the four musicians in question - Aidan Baker (Nadja), Gaspar Claus (Pedro Soler, Angélique Ionatos, etc.), Franck Laurino (Zéro) and Maxime Tisserand (Chapelier Fou) - met for the first time. The recording took place at the l'Autre Canal in Nancy (France). The sessions were intensive and created an extremely specific context in which the musicians were confined. This atmosphere spontaneously brought about strong cohesion which led the group to produce a real break with its environment, easily freeing themselves from the closed-in walls of the studios to imagine an organic music rather like the photographs by Francis Meslet which illustrate the cover art.

Dieter Moebius (1944-2015) was part of the band Kluster, to which also Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Conrad Schnitzler, and those in in the years 1970/71 in Düsseldorf. Grooms' Exit Index combines the abandon of pop with the unease of American life in 2017, cloaking its hooks in a clamor of samples and distortion, its agitation expressed in its dream-poetry lyrics. The album as a whole is a study in contrasts-light meeting dark, amplifier fuzz surrounding big melodies, sampled friction squaring off with fluidly played basslines. Grooms laid down the skeleton tracks for Exit Index, the Brooklyn band's first album since 2015's Comb the Feelings Through Your Hair, at the storied New York recording studio The Magic Shop-the last band to record there before its closure in March 2016. The heavy distortion on the group's guitars helps add to the gloom as well;
Johnson, who has co-owned the Brooklyn pedal company Death By Audio Effects since 2008, made a limited-edition distortion pedal to celebrate the album's release. "There's a lot of tremolo on Exit Index," he says, "so I made a fucked-up-sounding trem." Collin Dupuis (Angel Olsen, Lana Del Rey) mixed the album, adding a few finishing touches to intros and song structures

Growing up with BATHORY’s epic era in their hearts it was inevitable that the music EREB ALTOR were to create was going to be influenced by their house gods. So with BATHORY’s anthems as their spiritual foundation they set out to create an own branch of the so called ”Epic Viking metal” genre. However a few years after the inception of the band it went on hiatus and only after more than a decade Mats and Ragnar decided to breathe new life into their sleeping beauty. A recording was done late 2003 with some of the over ten years old songs (slightly modified). The demo was named “Awakening”. The songs were put online for people to listen and it was also pressed in aprox 100 copies with a color layout. The response was great but nevertheless n proper album was never unleashed, and the years passed... But in early 2007 Mats and Ragnar heeded the call from the one eyed old man and went into studio Apocalypse in Gävle to record a full-length album, without having a record deal, hoping that someone was willing to release it. Needless to say we at I Hate jumped at the chance, cause this is first class heavy metal, meaningful, epic, heavy, melodic, melancholic and true to the style created by BATHORY, SCALD and DOOMSWORD with elements of CANDLEMASS and ISOLE. Put simply;
if you have the slightest affinity for musical grandeur ”By Honour” will put a berserkers grin on your face! We now reissue the album on clear vinyl with an improved cover artwork and layout.

By no means a release of new or current Don Cab material (and originally released in 1999), Singles Breaking Up (Vol. 1) offers quite a range of the band's history to appreciate. The oldest recordings found here are programs 1-6 which became the first two singles and a b-side for the fourth. They were recorded in a 1/2 inch 8 track studio by Lee Hollihan of Valencia, PA (the original Good Morning Vietnam man) for only $25 an hour. The next batch, 7-9, were recorded by Steve Albini in his once home studio and were a part of the For Respect Sessions. Program 10 was also recorded in this same studio by colleague engineer Bob Weston. Program 11 was recorded in Detroit by engineer Al Sutton and was a part of the sessions for Don Caballero 2. Lastly, programs 12-13 were recorded again by Steve Albini in the B room portion of this Chicago studio Electrical Audio. The photographic art concept for the whole anthology is simply this: 7 inch phonograph singles breaking up, in the kind of setting of giving Abby Road back to the people. With the exception of programs 12-13, these songs were recorded in the early part of the 1990's. The intention was not to release them in this form, if at all, but to give the record company a rough idea of the songs Don Cab at the time. The "punky" songs were written with the sole intention of obtaining a record contract. It seemed a the time that contracts flowed like water for this kind of music. The band soon found out that it wasn't quite that easy, but did, eventually, manage to sign a deal with Touch and Go. It is interesting to see how some of these songs, or parts of them, developed into others that have become well-known.
