This project began as recently as 2011 when Joris Oster and Raphaël Haubourdin decided to start an electro band merging the power of fuzzy post-punk bass guitar with electronics. As soon as they entered the recording studio the right sonic alchemy was there. Joris, also a member of Silver Riot, delivers brutal bass in perfect sync with the keyboards, sequences and voice of Raphaël Haubourdin (who is also behind the dark wave project Graceland). Holly Herndon's Movement is the debut offering of material by the young musician, modernist, and machinist. Restless for reckless cultural immersion, Herndon left her Johnson City, Tennessee home as a teenager for Berlin, Germany. For several years, Herndon lived and learned techno music as party dweller and performer, eventually returning wide-minded to the States to pursue a Masters in Electronic Music at Mills College. Under the guidance of network pioneer John Bischoff, Roscoe Mitchell, and Maggi Payne, Herndon pursued her experiments with processed voice and explored embodiment in electronic music. Started at the end of Herndon's studies, Movement is a test chamber that hybridizes her modern composition training and undying devotion to club music. To this extent, the influences of Maryanne Amacher and Galina Ustvolskaya are as prevalent in Herndon's music as Pan Sonic and Berlin and Birmingham 90s techno. Still, in line with pop deconstructionists Laurie Anderson and Art of Noise, Movement is purposefully positioned to reach new ears beyond a niche. Honoring a strong tradition of computer composition from Stockhausen to Florian Hecker, Herndon is unapologetic about using a machine as her primary instrument. She builds most of her own instruments and vocal effects in the visual programming language Max/MSP, and sees it as a principled part of her practice to push the most modern processors to their limits. Herndon's ability to sharp turn from synthetic psychosis to hard-coded human sensuality allows Movement approachability for any listener knowingly or unknowingly seeking technological enlightenment. Carbon Games has signed Front Line Assembly to create an original album for AirMech. "For AirMech, the first thing I thought of was trying to get music that sounded like Front Line Assembly, so then I figured I should at least try and contact the band on the off chance they would be interested in talking with us," says James Green, Game Director at Carbon Games. "I was thrilled when the news came back that they would be interested in working on a game project again." Front Line Assembly is one of the pioneering bands in the electronic industrial world and continues to be guided by founder Bill Leeb. The AirMech album has been under development since late 2011 in parallel with the progression of the game. Selections of the music will be deconstructed for use as dynamic music, which reacts to conditions during battle. French dance producer Bambounou will release Orbiting, his debut album on November 23. Part of Paris’s YoungGunz crew (other members include French Fries and Manare), Bambounou will release the album on Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons imprint – who released an EP by him, COBE, earlier this year. According to Bambounou, “The main influences for my music are African rhythm grooves, Chicago and Detroit House artists like DJ Funk, DJ Slugo and of course the Dance Mania label. I am also really inspired by UK Dubstep ,UK Funky and Techno. I also need to mention Drexciya. “As 50 Weapons is really mainly a club music label, I didn’t want to do a pop album with real songs. This is why I chose to have no singers or any ‘proper’ lyrics featured on it. I started with quite a minimalist approach. I essentially wanted to have some key techno tracks mixed with some serious dancefloor bangers. Even though I feel the tracks are all quite different within there own right, they still come under the umbrella of 90s house and techno mixed with some kind of bass music. n the year for end-time prophecies to be fulfilled, ZombieZombie is releasing a record under Versatile Records and it's called 'Rituels d'un Nouveau Monde' ("Rituals Of A New World"). A title in French aimed to emphasize and affirm the 'made in France'. There is no fluff behind this mysterious and all-encompassing name but the only desire to take a new direction in their instrumental music: after having explored horror movie soundtracks and even covered with intelligence the best music of the genius John Carpenter in 2010. It was time to close the books. Etienne Jaumet is in command, with analog and modular synthesizers, rhythms boxes, effects and vox, Cosmic Neman is playing drums and percussion, vox (rototoms, bongos, maracas , tambourine..) and Joakim is behind the mics and the mixing board of his 'Labyrinthe' studio in Paris. A dream studio: how not to be inspired by that place where the ultimate analog synthesizers are side by side with high-end recording equipment. Joakim's skills as a sound engineer along with his music knowledge did nothing but sublimate the compositions of the band... It was recorded last spring in between the various tours of the two partners, whether it is the solo career of Etienne Jaumet or the other project of Cosmic Neman, Herman Dune. Without taking it too seriously either, the title of this album conceals the idea of talking about the spiritual language of music and of its magical universe. Conveying, through sounds and rhythms, feelings that allow us to reach a dream-like state, the state of trance that is common to the African traditions and the Caribbean where the 'ritual' is the process that allows to come in contact with a supernatural state, here called the 'new world'. The world beyond that Etienne Jaumet and Cosmic Neman are trying to reach while playing their hypnotic music. In the voodoo mythology , some elements of the nature are able to acquire some divinatory and protective powers to come in contact with that other world, such as stones (track1 'the wisdom of stones, (do you believe in..)') or trees (track 5. 'Forêt Vierge'), and of course music that can connect the visible and the invisible. That's what Sun Ra and the black arts Free Jazz movements (track 7. 'Black Paradise') have always sought after while playing, especially while improvising so that they can reach that 'climax' (track6. Swedish producer ANDERS ILAR might be what you call a loner. He would neither follow a hype nor produce too close to the edge. His music, an island. ANDERS ILAR is a true album artist, his tracks work individually but only achieve their full effect in the album context. In 2003 he released his ambient club debut EVERDOM on SHITKATAPULT and in 2007 his dream-like album LUDWIJKA, both following their own theme, atmosphere, mood. Same goes for his album ELVA, on which he mostly he refers to his own musical history. Formally he achieves this on his 11th album ELVA by producing 11 tracks, who last 1 hour 11 minutes 11 seconds. He started the production on 11.11.11. Listening through his numerous output, what you hear is showing his various talents. He is a piano player, a huge a fan of drumcomputers and a technical nerd, able to drill himself towards the core. ELVA is moving between dark, romantic harmonies and clear sounds. Experimental grooves and romantic chords are extremes that are not opposing in ILAR’s cosmos but are creating one picture. Cristallclear cymbal sounds on straightforward basslines, distorted bass sounds combined with oldschool synth chord sounds. Almost 80’s. Definitely a unique way of music production and ANDERS ILAR through and through. No matter if it is club hymns like (The Iron Door) or complicated 6/8 waltz romances from the north (Wheels Of Time) or experimental tracks like the secret title and closing track (Spiral). A very adventurous album - from the island perspective. Perfectly fitting the latest SHITKATAPULT catalog with Shrubbn!!, Oval and Cristian Vogel, returning to it’s experimental roots, featuring demanding and outstanding Electronica, focussing on the deeper sounds than the ones lost in art.
