With two or three songs, the band will skilfully try out more varied arrangements. Neither the dark basic atmosphere suffers from that, nor do the subtle experiments seem like foreign bodies. After two albums, the Swedes in STARBLIND had to cope with a change of vocalist in 2016. But the newly acquired Marcus S. Olkerud did splendid work on the third album. An album that already shows the direction of where the quintet is headed with their fourth work 'Black Bubbling Ooze'. Wonderful twin guitar runs by the duo Björn Rosenblad and Johan "J.J" Jonasson are a shining example of Melodic Metal. The hammering bass lines provided by Daniel Tillberg together with the thunderous drum works by Zakarias Wikner create a solid and heavy foundation that gets your heart pounding. In addition, the vocals manage to steer the eight compositions into the classic vein of true Heavy Metal. Of course, comparisons to IRON MAIDEN are inevitable this time as well, but at this level of quality, other formations of a similar nature must make a strong impression to compare.Limited 300 Copies, Red Transparent/Black Splatter Vinyl.

SINISTHRA comes from Finland and has been in various stages of existence since around 1999. Their brand of music is basically metal, drawing from a wide source of different influences and blending them to a sound that can't really be compared to any one single band. Always quite melancholic, most of the time quite heavy, and often with strong shades of 70’s prog with lesser shades of 90’s grunge. The band released the debut album on 2005, called “Last Of The Stories Of Long Past Glories” to favourable reviews and got labelled “gothic metal”, somewhat misleadingly. As the singer Tomi Joutsen joined Amorphis, his career skyrocketed and Sinisthra’s didn’t, so due to lack of time from his part, things slowed down. After the successful release of the new ‘The Long And Beaten Way’, Sinisthra and Rockshots Records decided to re-release a new version of the cult debut album. The reissue version includes 4 bonus tracks: two demo versions (‘Ice Cube Sun’ and ‘Unrevelealed’) plus two unreleased songs (‘Not For You’ and ‘To Have and To Hold’)

Eternal's Kelsonic Studios in Australia. The writing sessions for the self-titled were largely helmed by Miranda and Davis, with Miranda providing the riffs and Davis cementing the arrangements. While all three songs from Through Divine Rite made the jump to the self-titled album ("Trampled into the Earth," "Through Divine Rite" and "Flametongue"), the remainder of the songs were created through trial-and-error. Davis, admittedly, is a stickler for arrangements and will often create multiple versions of the same song, while Pinion added her flavor by supplying song ideas and vocal lines written on the piano. This unorthodox way of writing paid off in the end: Stygian Crown emerged with a batch of songs that each bears their own identity but are unmistakably crushing and epic. Pinion shouldered the lyric writing load, detailing myths from different cultures, namely "Devour the Dead," which is about the Egyptian goddess Ammit, while "Two Coins for the Ferryman" recalls Charon, the boatman who took the dead across the river Styx. Her vocals - one of the defining traits of Stygian Crown - work majestically between the band's boulder-sized riffs and powerful bottom-end, resonating on album opener "Up from the Depths" and "When Old Gods Die." A sterling, heaving album capable of moving heaven and earth, Stygian Crown's self-titled debut is a masterclass in songwriting and unbridled heaviness. Doomination awaits!
