While each of the Beatles had individual tastes when it came to the music of others and each his favoured artists, it was George who enthusiastically wore these influences on his sleeve and championed said artists most keenly. While, as with most musicians from his generation, George was moved radically by the dawn of Rock & Roll, in addition to the obvious Elvis influence he was touched specifically by the music of Carl Perkins, The Everly Brothers and Duane Eddy - along with home-grown talent from the likes of Lonnie Donegan and Joe Brown. Later on of course, Harrison became hugely interested in Eastern culture and spirituality and probably gained more personal insight from the music and teachings of his friend and mentor Ravi Shankar - a master of Indian stringed instruments such as the sitar - than he did by just about anyone else. But George never took himself or the world around him too seriously and throughout his life was a lover of great comedy, from the Goons to Monty Python. He adored the humorous songs and accompanying ukulele sound that George Formby performed in the 1940s along with the more sophisticated humour of the American comedian who played a posh-Englishman, Lord Buckley, during the beat era. And while perhaps not as keen an R n B fan as his band mate John Lennon, he adored the sounds and songs of Smokey Robinson. Interestingly too this collection also give space to two writers and musicians who not only provided enormous inspiration for Harrison, but who were both later bought together with George in the short lived Travelling Wilburys Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison. Get in to a car with a full tank, throw yourself towards the first motorway you can find and build up miles and miles without ever looking into the rear-view mirror. That's the spirit that made Kraftwerk start up nearly fifty years ago and it looks like its where Jupiter Lion are starting, only that the motorways this Valencian trio are driving on aren't in Germany, their up there between Venus and Uranus. It's not the Milky Way but the Jupiter Lion Way, where dimensions shrink and expand and the third eye melts into a sincere hug with our chakras. The band, formed at the beginnings of 2011 by Sais (vocals, synthesizer and programming), Jose Guerrero (Bass guitar) and Gonzo In Vegas (drums) come from the legacy of German experimental music, the kind that at some point stopped looking towards the USA and Europe and started to look towards outerspace, the kind that takes music forward with nerve and sweat. Riding on a Supernova of Kraut Rock that alternatively condenses and frees energy, this fantastic first album for BCore (recorded in June 2012 by Pablo Peir- - bass guitar of Betunizer- at the Sountess Studio) has six trips full of psychedelic and hypnotic rhythms that makes the listener advance non-stop. More, more and more. Jupiter Lion don't use dirty tricks or postal epic, they do slow burning, suggestive kinematics, the kind that Stereolab or Tortoise fans enjoy when they ride the back of the Gran Turbina of Motorik. Jose (also in Betunizer, La Orquestra Ganador and other projects) and Gonzo turn their rhythms, made of constant drive, into a magic carpet from which Sais serves himself and takes us on a interplanetary trip without leaving our homes, exploring spaces inside and out. Six songs that activate all our senses and those to come, a true sensorial hurricane that promises an energetic, physical and hypnotic live performance where dancing and eye ball turning inside out are totally assured. Striking Distance was a hardcore punk band from 1999-2003, who hailed from Washington DC with a decidedly NYHC/Boston sound. The band, fronted by one of the angriest frontmen in B9 history, Dave Byrd, originally released The Fuse Is Lit on CD and 7inch via B9 back in May of '02. Since then, Striking Distance broke up, reunited in 2007 for Youngblood Fest, and have remained dormant ever since. Fast forward to 2013, and Bridge Nine is re-releasing this very important hardcore album and Striking Distance are gearing up for their reunion at this year's United Blood Festival in Richmond, VA. Out of print since the mid-2000's, The Fuse Is Lit has undergone a deluxe re-treatment by Bridge Nine and will now be available on 12" LP. This re-issue features 6 studio tracks that originally appeared on the album on Side A, and a great 7-song 'Live at CBGB's' set from August 2001 (which perfectly captures the band's energy) on Side B. All of the audio has been remastered specifically for vinyl by John Golden at Golden Mastering as part of Bridge Nine's 10th Anniversary Repress Series. Bridge Nine label owner Chris Wrenn commented, "This was such an important release for Bridge Nine and I'm really happy to get it back in print.
