Falcon Jane's second album Faith started coming together at the beginning of 2019 when Sara May, the artist behind the band, experienced a string of deaths in her family. Attending a seemingly endless number of traditional Catholic funerals within the space of a year caused May to dive inwards, reassessing her own notions of memory, grief, love, ceremony and identity. "Music is how I process vulnerable emotions like sadness and grief," she says, "and for me these funerals were traumatic in a way." Faith is a way of excavating her truth through clear-eyed self-examination. "This album is just as much about trying to figure out what kind of person I am as it is about death," she says. "Where do my beliefs lie? Am I a good person? There needed to be a big collapse in order to grow. A total exhale so that I could breathe in new life, new faith." This new faith is presented in "Heaven", a track that culminates these internal struggles with an idyllic, peaceful state. "That's where I'm trying to get to," May adds. "The rest of the songs are doing the hard work to try to get there."

The new album of the Swedish singer-songwriter convinces with its deep calm, complex songwriting and intimacy and celebrates its wonderfully vulnerable truthfulness. Christian Kjellvander has recorded "About Love And Loving Again" - in spring 2020, when almost all of Europe was in strict lockdown except Sweden, he went into self-chosen isolation to bring us this album. The result is "About Love And Loving Again", perhaps the artist's most dense and intimate album to date - in seven long and slow songs Kjellvander celebrates tranquility, lets every sound speak, weaves warmly and the melodies float around the very personal and profound lyrics. Christian Kjellvander develops his music out of Alternative Country, lets free jazz and lo-fi flow in, delivers dense singer-songwriting and creates songs that seem like a softly rushing undertow. You may find it hard to believe, but this complex sound, whose dynamics range from almost silence to unbridled expressive wide screen format, was recorded by a minimal trio in a Stockholm basement studio and mostly live. This fits Kjellvander's demand for authenticity, because according to himself, with "About Love And Loving Again" he wants one thing above all else: "to be true and vulnerable.

Released by Brun's own Balloon Ranger Recordings on October 30, 2020, these represent her first original material since 2015 and will be available in CD, LP and digital formats. AFTER THE GREAT STORM finds Brun in questing mode, her crystal-clear, affecting voice haunted by electronic and analogue textures. The emotionally charged 'Don't Run And Hide' and 'Honey''s laidback, soulful grooves reflect Brun's love of trip hop while acknowledging contemporary acts including SiR, Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak and Solange, and 'Take Hold Of Me' nods to The Knife's 'Silent Shout'. Jennie Abrahamson and Linnea Olsson also guest on 'Crumbs', before 'We Need A Mother' closes the album in mournful but optimistic style. "Both albums deal with the bigger questions in life," says Brun, "but in 2020 these questions have become even bigger. Steve Von Till has charted an extraordinary musical path over the last several decades, from his main duties as singer and guitarist of the boundary-breaking Neurosis to the psychedelic music of his Harvestman project and the gothic Americana he's released under his own name. But No Wilderness Deep Enough is truly like nothing you've ever heard from him before-an album that's devastatingly beautiful and overwhelming in its scope, reminiscent of the tragic ecstasy of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' recent work as well as the borderless ambient music pioneered by Brian Eno, late composer Jóhann Jóhannsson's glacial compositions, and the electronic mutations of Coil.

ROME is back to fearlessly settle accounts of the spirit, with that grave trademark voice, whose tone can be likened to a wise-man's oracle, deepened by countless cigars and pools of stout, or, at times, a Stuka bomber nose-diving into dry gravel. ROME's art always stays slightly beyond the pale and Reuter certainly is what the mainstream would call a joyous outsider. "The Lone Furrow" is a mordant, clear-eyed critique of the modern world, spun with the delicacy of a spiderweb; a journey through the ravaged landscapes of history; a spiritual quest weaving a unique poetry of withdrawal from the troubling world into distant retreats. The record opens up with the cryptic rhymes of "Tyriat Sig Tyrias" - an invocation of strengths thought forlorn. On "Ächtung, Baby!" (a tongue-in-cheek reference to U2's 1991 hit record) Jerome is joined by Alan Averill of metal cult band PRIMORDIAL. Indeed, the features and guest appearances are numerous on this record. This shows the fact that, through years of composing high quality albums, ROME has become a secret authority in the European underground as a songwriter's songwriter. And thus, Reuter, a poet with the soul of a warrior, has managed to assemble an impressive/stellar cast of guest vocalists. Most notably is the guest appearance of BEHEMOTH's Adam Nergal Darski on the seminal "The Angry Cup", on which Nergal not only performs lead vocals but adds an intriguingly brutal Polish incantation. Further guests are Joseph D. Rowland of US-doom band PALLBEARER, J.J. of Austria's HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY, as well as Laure Le Prunenec of metal-opera act IGORRR, who delivers the phenomenally eerie layered vocals on "Palmyra". At the centre of these songs we find the individual mediating between a sense of history and an experience of the world. ROME illuminates us on the fact that art is to make our world whole and comprehensible, restoring it to us in all its glory and all its darkness, not through argument but through feeling and thus closing the gap between individuals and thus transcending from feeling to meaning. In this way, art can reconcile us to human life through the pursuit and cultivation of beauty. On "The Lone Furrow" ROME weaves a fantastical tale in which gods and men alike ache and tremble and which reminds us that the world is much larger than our ideas of it, our traditions much deeper than we imagine. Most importantly, ROME refuses the easy answer

Narratively, H.C. McEntire's Eno Axis is about finding direction in the natural world, and following love. Sonically, it's an album shaped enormously by the atmosphere it was recorded in_the crew's synergy and positivity, the proximity and presence of a band in a room playing with intention. Structurally, it's a group of songs inspired by the colors and tones of open tunings, by the sacrality of space and instinct. Stylistically, it's folk-rock leaning into its curious experimental side and moved by the spiritual rawness of classic soul and the simplicity of earnest pop. Eno Axis feels like a confident and mature step forward from her debut album LIONHEART_in tone, arrangement, production, and spirit.
