It's album release time for this Madrid-based soul/jazz organ trio who have been burning up stages and festivals throughout 2019 and who have already had a successful single out on Rocafort Records. Beat Bronco Organ Trio have not rewritten the Hammond musical handbook, but they do what it says on the tin rather splendidly – a Road Trip that grooves, swings and sashays around the familiar but much loved funky jazz theme. Although it's impossible to listen to the album without summoning up the ghosts of Jimmies McGriff & Smith and the like, nearly all tracks here are originals and shout out personality, verve and respectful homage to the tradition. Featuring the usual leitmotifs: Shaftish film sountrack, lo-fi lounger, gospel-tinged toe-tapper, the hip shaker and much wah-wah frenesi, there's nothing not to like if the genre is your bag. The steaming horn section on "Hard Play" thickens the sauce à la JBs and the Meters, aided along by a unique orchestra of handclaps. Vocalist and guitarist Alberto Palacios Anaut storms in with "Hey Hey", an old Dave Bartholomew classic from New Orleans, just to remind us where Fats Domino and Ray Charles got it all from. Chip Wickham makes two welcome appearances on flute, adding an extra jazzy touch to "Squirtly" and "Electro Pi" – the latter a fabulous trippy, spacious head-nodder that demands in our opinion some kind of a wigged out drum'n'bass remix. Every track is clearly dominated by variations on the vintage keyboard, be it Hammond, Clavinet or Minimoog; all roads lead to that sexy, sacred sound. Spain is already prominent on the modern-day Funk map thanks to groups like The Sweet Vandals, Speak Low and Mighty Vamp – and it comes as no surprise that our hero trio featured at various times in all these bands. Gabri Casanova (keys), Lucas de Mulder (guitar, percussion) and Antonio "Pax" Alvarez (drums, percussion) have been busy reviving the funk gospel for some time now. Road Trip is an elegant culmination of their efforts in keeping alive a revered and timeless tradition that still today serves as a reference to where all the good stuff came from: The Church!

Produced by Adrian Younge, Angela Munoz, a 18-year-old Los Angeles native, debuts her hypnotic voice with her new album released on Younge's Linear Labs. This prolific artist is a prodigy, writing and singing music beyond her tender years. Her captivating voice carries strength and prowess, cultivated by a myriad of first-hand experiences and training in the art of sound.At the age of 5, she discovered her distinctive voice and was considered an “Old Soul.” She began to play instruments such as guitar and piano. With practice, Munoz began to dominate singing competitions, leaving unexpected audiences in a trance. Throughout the years, she trained herself by attending a performing arts middle school and high school in the heart of Los Angeles. Many of the artists were introduced to her by her older brother (writing partner) Brandon Munoz. As an avid music collector, artists such as Nirvana, Donny Hathaway, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest and Cortex began to make an imprint on her sound.A few years ago, her brother introduced her to Something About April, a record produced by Adrian Younge. The quality of the music left her intrigued. Shortly thereafter, she serendipitously found herself working with “The Midnight Hour,” a group comprised of Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (formally of A Tribe Called Quest). In 2018, they debuted her song “Bitches do Voodoo,” on their eponymously titled album The Midnight Hour; they also took Angela on tour, featuring her on NPR’s Tiny Desk.Angela Munoz is an old soul that finds solace in the sound of an orchestra, turntables, or the randomness that fuels her youthful energy; a prodigy who stands by her uniqueness, even if it doesn’t satisfy the status-quo. She believes the heart of music is emotion and this is where she finds her personal liberty and strength. With her commanding presence, she is destined to become a cannon in music for years to come.

и все же, слушая музыку Терри Каллиера, невольно задаешься вопросом, почему после дебюта прошло три десятилетия, прежде чем этот певец смог зарабатывать на жизнь плодами своего голоса. "Turn You To Love", возможно, самый недооцененный альбом (allmusic. com), поначалу может вызвать удивление из-за несколько противоречивого состава композиций. Однако, в отличие от творений других соул-музыкантов, песни Каллиера показывают не столько то, каким должен быть соул, сколько то, каким он может быть.

Его музыкальный язык воздерживается от гневных высказываний, а вместо этого культивирует достоверные, глубоко прочувствованные чувства. Это выражается как в задорном фанке ("Sign Of The Times"), так и в среднетемповых и проникновенных песнях, таких как "Pyramids Of Love".

Каллиер демонстрирует свое вокальное мастерство в чередовании округлых, дымчато-приглушенных фраз ("Turn You To Love") и лирически насыщенных, ритмически свободных свинговых фрагментов ("Ordinary Joe"), переходящих в повествовательно-медитативные сферы ("Occasional Rain"). В промежутках между ними - тонко смикшированная полифония ("You And Me"), а также выстрел в хорошо сохранившийся, нерушимый грув-саунд того времени ("Still Water").

Эта продукция Speakers Corner была сделана на 100% чисто аналоговой с использованием аналоговой мастер-ленты и мастеринга. Все лицензии и сборы GEMA были оплачены.
