Уроженка Бейрута Ясмин Хамдан стала известна в арабском мире благодаря своей инди-электро группе Soapkills. Ее сотрудничество с продюсером Мадонны Мирвайсом над альбомом "Arabology" под именем Y. A.S., а также с фолк-сестрами CocoRosie, также принесло ей широкое международное признание.

в 2012 году Хамдан выпустила свой сольный дебют "Ya Nass", спродюсированный в сотрудничестве с Марком Коллином (Nouvelle Vague). Он получил хорошие отзывы в Европе, Северной Америке и арабском мире. "Современный голос арабской музыки", - пишет, например, New York Times. Киноманы уже должны быть знакомы с Ясмин Хамдан: в 2013 году она снялась в легендарном фильме "В живых остались только любовники", удостоенном наград вампирском фильме Джима Джармуша с Тильдой Суинтон и Томом Хиддлстоном.

Для работы над фильмом "Аль-Джамилат" (нем. Die Schönen) на борт поднялась новая команда. Помимо самого Хамдана, сопродюсерами выступили Люк Смит (Depeche Mode, Лили Аллен, Foals) и Лео Абрахамс (Брайан Ино, Карл Барат), а в записи участвовали Шахзад Исмаили (Лори Андерсон, Лу Рид) и Стив Шелли (Sonic Youth).

В то время как голос Хамдана явно отражает традиции арабской музыки с нетрадиционным и свежим подходом, структуры и аранжировки произведений далеки от своих корней и опираются на современную западную электронику, поп и фолк.
