Fire Records are proud to announce the signing of celebrated American singer-songwriter MARK MULCAHY for his eagerly anticipated forthcoming album, entitled "Dear Mark J. Mulcahy, I Love You.", which will be his first studio release since 2005's critically acclaimed "In Pursuit Of Your Happiness". Armed with his trusty Epiphone and his wonderfully emotive vocals, MARK MULCAHY recorded the new album in Northampton, Massachusetts with Henning Ohlenbusch. The album was mixed by Grammy-winning producer Paul Q. Kolderie, who has made some of the most important records of the past two decades by artists including RADIOHEAD, THE PIXIES, HOLE, MORPHINE, UNCLE TUPELO, WARREN ZEVON and DINOSAUR JR. The record was mastered by Mark's longtime collaborator Myles Mangino. MARK MULCAHY is the former singer of MIRACLE LEGION, an American rock band of the late 80s, early 90s who were signed to Rough Trade. Following the demise of the band, Mark's solo career began with "Fathering", an album that received universal praise including "Album Of The Month" in Uncut and "Album Of The Week" in The Guardian and featured the track "Hey Self Defeater" which was featured in Nick Hornby's book "31 Songs". From there followed albums "Smilesunset" and "In Pursuit Of Your Happiness", several tours of the UK and Europe, countless radio sessions and huge critical acclaim for both his songwriting prowess and his remarkable voice. In 2008 he put everything on hold to look after his children following the tragic death of his wife. To assist him through these troubled times many of his long-time fans in the music industry banded together to record an album of his songs as a tribute to his wife and the result was 2009's "Ciao My Shining Star", featuring the likes of MICHAEL STIPE, THOM YORKE, FRANK BLACK, MERCURY REV, DINOSAUR JR and THE NATIONAL. Fire Records delve further in to the Australian underground with the signing of Melbourne-based four-piece LOWER PLENTY. Their transfixing LP "Hard Rubbish" was voted Album of the Year 2012 on Aussie indie bible Mess + Noise. Comprised of some of the city's most talented musicians, Daniel Twomey, Jensen Tjhung, Sarah Heyward and Al Montfort hail from various other bands such as DEAF WISH, TOTAL CONTROL, UV RACE and THE FOCUS. A departure from the harsher sounds of their other projects, LOWER PLENTY create beautifully melancholy, suburban-country music that's made while sitting around the kitchen table. Raw and delicate, "Hard Rubbish" was recorded on eight-track reel-to-reel tape, often in just a single take. Their folk-tinged indie rock is flecked with experimentation whilst retaining a firm hold on some fantastically memorable melodies. With a non-traditional set-up of two guitars, drums and processed percussion with four vocals - LOWER PLENTY take us on a very exciting ride. On the 35th anniversary of the original release of "Alternative Chartbusters" these two classic albums are to be given a special edition deluxe release on both 2CD & vinyl by Fire Records. Both albums have been digitally re-mastered to the highest quality (personally overseen by Dangerfield) and feature sleeve notes by Dave Henderson of Mojo along with song listing notes by Dangerfield. On 17 March 1978, a mere six months after the release of their self-titled debut, a second album "Alternative Chartbusters" followed - once again produced by Dangerfield & Steel. But, as the AllMusic site now recognizes, "Alternative Chartbusters" was way ahead of its time, a buried treasure that only got dusted off much later: "Condemned at the time for offering up little more than a straight carbon copy of its predecessor, the second Boys' album has since ascended to the pantheon of power pop greats, a combination of the band's own inestimable position at the forefront of what, by early 1978, was already a burgeoning movement, and their seemingly effortless grasp of the rudiments of, indeed, a great pop song. Fire Records are delighted to announce that they will be releasing the brand new solo album from Australian songwriting legend Tom Morgan, best known for his contributions to SMUDGE and THE LEMONHEADS. "Orange Syringe" includes ten perfectly formed stripped-back pop songs saturated with Aussie charm, with just the right amount of jangle and an instantly comforting hook. The album showcases Morgan's skills as a master storyteller and lyricist, delving in to complex and personal subject matter, while never forsaking the hooks, leaving the songs swathed in melodic hues and moods ranging from the bright to the very, very dark. The man who wrote iconic songs like "It's A Shame About Ray" and "Outdoor Type" delivers line after line of tongue-in-cheek genius, with darkly funny twists like "the outcome is bleak, the second time in a week" and "I'm not broke, I'm just not working" along with casual flirtations, winking as he delivers "this beauty before me, she's a bit of alright" and smiling through his days of holding back on the bus fare when a pretty girl sleeps over and remembering his full family history while picking up the bottle of wine for dinner at his mother's. Tom Morgan has played in a plethora of bands, including fronting Aussie stalwarts SMUDGE, a tremendous 'slacker pop' trio who he formed in 1991 with drummer Alison Galloway (immortalized in THE LEMONHEADS "Alison is Starting to Happen"). They quickly became known for Morgan's melodic, mini-pop masterpieces with his colourful lyrics and the band's low-fi approach to recording, releasing three albums (plus a collection of B sides and unreleased covers), a mini-album, a handful of singles, and appearing on several compilation albums. Fire has recently reissued their stellar "Real McCoy", "Wrong Sinatra" and "Manilow" records. Long established as one of the finest lyricists of a generation of Aussie tunesmiths, Morgan was brought to wider attention when he paired with LEMONHEADS frontman Evan Dando for the albums "It's a Shame About Ray" and "Come on Feel The Lemonheads". With Tom's lyrical dexterity and ear for a perfect pop song, their meeting bore immediate spoils, inspiring Evan to global acclaim as he began the more 'pop' direction of his career. He was so taken with Tom's tunes that he even covered some of Smudge's songs, with great commercial success. Following passing a guitar back and forth with Evan, Tom and SMUDGE continued in various guises before finally splitting in 1999, only to get together a few years later to play periodic shows. A prolific writer, he has been continuously working and creating, and is finally ready with a proper solo album, seeing him recording with his wife Leticia and producing some of the very best work of his career. It is clearly time to sit up and take notice of the pop songwriting masterclass that is "Orange Syringe", where finally Tom Morgan can take centre stage and receive the recognition he deserves Style: Independent
