Showcasing a dozen of the group's best known works to date for esteemed Kingstonbased producer, Derrick Harriott, the LP features a number of sizable Jamaican hits, including "Singer Man", "Hold Down", "Nice Nice", as well as the best-selling title track. Soon after its release, the group moved on to work with other Jamaican producers of note, but unable to sustain their popularity, all but disappeared from the local music scene by the late seventies. Ray Thomas, John Lodge, and Michael Pinder had been members of El Riot &
the Rebels. They disbanded when Lodge went to college and Pinder joined the army. The pair recruited guitarist/vocalist Denny Laine, band manager-turned drummer Graeme Edge, and bassist Clint Warwick. The five appeared as the Moody Blues for the first time in Birmingham in 1964. It was the single, "Go Now" (released later that year), which launched their career. The single became a huge hit in the U.K. and landed the number 1 spot in the charts. The band soon realised that their style of R&B-derived rock and pop was not working for them and decided to develop an original new style, featuring the symphonic sounds of the mellotron and Ray Thomas' flute. Assigned to make a rock and roll version of Antonin Dvorák's New World Symphony, Moody Blues insisted that they be given artistic freedom and be left without supervision. The result was Days of Future Passed (1967), which combined the band's tracks with orchestral interludes arranged and conducted by Peter Knight. The album plus two singles, "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon", became substantial hits. Their follow-up album was In Search of the Lost Chord (1968). The album was again a big success with hits as "Ride My See-Saw" and "Voices in the Sky". Their next album On a Threshold of a Dream (1969) featured the sensitive ballad "Never Comes a Day" and was their first number 1 album in the U.K. The band's music continued to become more complex and symphonic, resulting in 1969's To Our Children's Children's Children, a concept album. It closes with the fan-favorite "Watching and Waiting". "To Our Children's Children's Children" was also the first release of the group's own founded label, Threshold Records. Released in 1981, Long Distance Voyager was a success, reaching number 1 on Billboard and top 5 in the U.K. The album featured the hit, "The Voice", written by Hayward. The remaining Moody Blues trio continues to tour and to this day the Moody Blues are one of classic rock's most enduring institutions, with world-wide sales of nearly 80 million albums and a following that continues to support the band. The Papas were formed by husband and wife John and Michelle Phillips, formerly of The New Journeymen, and Denny Doherty, formerly of The Mugwumps. The last member to join was Cass Elliot, Doherty's bandmate in The Mugwumps. The group considered calling itself The Magic Cyrcle before switching to The Mamas and the Papas as apparently inspired by the Hells Angels, whose female associates were called "mamas". They released a total of five studio albums and seventeen singles over a four-year period, six of which made the Billboard top ten, and sold close to 40 million records worldwide. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for their contributions to the music industry. The band's first single, "Go Where You Wanna Go", was released in 1965. The second single, "California Dreamin'", was released later in 1965 and quickly peaked in the charts. The band's album, If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears, was released in March 1966 and became the band's only number 1 album on the Billboard 200. The third and final single from their debut was "Monday, Monday", which became the band's only US number 1 hit. The song brought the band international success. In 1966 they recorded their second album The Mamas And The Papas. "I Saw Her Again" was the first single from the album before release. When the album was released in 1966, it peaked at number four in the US, continuing the band's success. "Words of Love" was released as the second single and "Dancing in the Street" was released as the third and final single. Deliver came in the autumn of 1966. The album featured the singles "Look Through My Window", "Dedicated To The One I Love" and "Creeque Alley". Shortly afterward, a non-album single called "Glad to be Unhappy" was released. Mama Cass Elliot had a successful solo career becoming popular with hits such as "Make Your Own Kind of Music" and "It's Getting Better". 180GR. AUDIOPHILE VINYL Jody Grind's second and final record Far Canal is a much sought after proto-prog album. The sound of the group, while still in the early British serious progressive rock bag, had somewhat changed compared to their debut. The jazzy inclinations of the debut are mostly gone, save the atypically tasteful instrumental "Ballad for Bridget." On "We've Had It" and parts of "Vegetable Oblivion," there was a classical melodic influence that is more accessible than anything on the first album. It is somewhat more in line with groups such as Yes, though Jody Grind were far less cheerful. On this record you can hear chops of heavy, somber organguitar interplay. While the presence of three consecutive tracks titled "Plastic Shit," "Vegetable Oblivion," and "Red Worms and Lice" might lead you to expect some Frank Zappaesque, progressive hard rock pieces.

With a hoarse voice he delivers songs that do not catch on. People jeer at him. Tomatoes fly through the air. The Frenchman with Armenian roots slinks off the stage, but does not quit. Ironically, the song that makes him a household name is the song in which he recalls his agonising trial. The audience reacted indifferently when Charles Aznavour decided to try out his new song on stage. But when he went on to greet the audience for one final time they all stood and gave him a thundering standing ovation. In the sixties, hits and classics succeed one another. Nobody is bothered any more by his husky voice, by his small stature or his rugged characterful face. The croony "For Me Formidable" (1963), the heart breaking "Et Pourtant" (1963) and the nostalgic "Hier Encore" (1964) confirm his standing as a fan favourite. "La Bohème" (1965) and "Emmenez-moi" (1967) turn Aznavour into a superstar. In "La Bohème", there are impressionist painters strolling in the shadows of the Sacré-Coeur, the compelling "Comme Ils Dissent" (1972) is the first chanson after Vichy France to overtly endorse homo sexuality and in the present "France Of La Manif Pour Tous" (the movement that opposes gay marriage), does it again to sound particularly topical. "Camarade" (1977) was about the nomenklatura, the ruling elite in the Soviet Union and is a social and historical topic. "Avec Un Brin De Nostalgie" is an Aznavour grand cru, maybe even the best he has made over the last thirty years. COLLECTED by Charles Aznavour is a wonderful collection of hits and classic by the French artist that touches your soul at every moment. It's an overview of his work during the sixties, seventies and duets with Johnny Hallyday on "Il Faut Savoir" and with Frank Sinatra "Young At Heart". Also his English versions of "How Sad Venice Can Be", "The Old Fashioned Way", "She" and four more English songs are included on this deluxe Trifold 3LP album.

Because of her troubled family history she was looking for an escape of reality. After surviving a heroin addiction and a brief stint as a bank robber, Sill turned her rather intense passions to music. She released two albums and partially completed a third album before her death in 1979. Sill's music was complex, elegantly crafted and yet completely devoid of pretension or overwrought melodrama. Unfairly lumped in with other female, proto-adult contemporary songwriters like Joni Mitchell or Carole King, Sill was much closer in spirit to Brian Wilson, Nick Drake, or one her idols, J.S. Bach. She had a gift for making very complicated things sound simple, beautiful. The second album Judee Sill made, proved to be her last. "?" -?- (German for "question mark") is the second album by German pop-rock band Nena. It was released in 1984, just a year after the band's first album Nena. Like its self-titled predecessor, this album was produced by Reinhold Heil and Manne Praeker of Spliff. The album's title track was co-written by Nena and the band's keyboard player Jörn-Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen. It reached #3 in the German charts in 1983. The lyrics - written by Nena - comprise the thoughts of someone racked by indecisiveness ("Today I'm coming, today I'm also going..Perhaps I'll stay, Yesterday that wasn't for me, Today I need endless love"). The song is a mainstay of Nena's live concerts and seems to be particularly popular with female fans although it is not uncommon for Nena to interrupt her performance of the song, apparently to laugh at the absurdity of the lyrics. Two more singles were spawned;
"Rette Mich" and "Lass Mich Dein Pirat Sein". Fragezeichen -?- reached the number 1 spot in the German, Swiss and Austrian album charts and was certified platinum.

180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL MUSIC FROM THE HIT TV SHOW "DAKTARI" A SCORE FOCUSED ON PERCUSSION AND AFRICAN SOUND Cut in the birth pangs of electric fusion and afro-funk, West Coast drummer Shelly Manne's brilliant score for the popular '60's TV series Daktari still stands as a global fusion landmark. Daktari is an album by drummer Shelly Manne recorded in 1967 featuring music from Daktari. The heavy use of the marimba with various percussion instruments serves the score well and makes it a huge success. On the album, Mike Wofford plays a tack piano to evoke an African sound, and Manne is joined by percussionists Emil Richards, Larry Bunker, Frank Carlson, and Victor Feldman. According to the record liner notes, Manne and fellow percussionists play ankle and wrist jingles, Thai mouth organs, angklungs, ocarinas, vibraphones, tympani, and different kinds of marimbas. Steely Dan guitarist Walter Becker was a fan of the album's 'vaguely African' music, sounding like it came from "Hollywood session players" rather than actual Africans. In the late 1990s, Becker modelled a percussion sequence after this style on the song "Two Against Nature" released on the Steely Dan album of the same name.
