THE PHEROMOANS are a six piece experimental rock band from the South East of England who deal in a deadpan DIY music. Wedded to the mundane, surreal reportage of our lives as reflected in the media, their music manages to address the truly restless boredom of everyday life. These are songs for the back of the queue, songs from underneath the ergonomic desk, a glimpse through the commuter window, blasted through with brilliant suburban sunshine. Over the last three years the band have released a slew of releases, including numerous EPs, 7"s and three albums through labels as diverse as Night People, Convulsive, Sweet Rot, Monofonus Press and their own imprint Savoury Days. These releases largely focussed on a ramshackle, wayward rock ethic, underpinned by lyricist Russell Walker's dry, observational musings that tread an almost diary-like pathway through the songs. New album, "Does This Guy Stack Up?" witnesses a slight departure from their sound of old. With the recent addition of keyboard/violin player Dan Bolger to the band, their songs have leaned into a more pop-balanced realm, with the band's experimental tape collage approach sounding more natural than ever. The bass (Christian Butler aka The Octogram), drums (James Hines) and guitars (James Tranmer, Alex Garran) together forging a coherent foundation for Walker's voice to ramble amongst the radiant synth and electronic flourishes. ld Lord Fauntleroy' is a joyous barrage of roaming bass, primal beats and droning keyboard, whilst 'Waterworld' propels itself through drifts of violin fog. Central to the appeal of The Pheromoans are Russell Walker's insightful, often wonderfully humorous, self-deprecating lyrics that paint a picture of all of us as outsiders. 'Don't Mention It' for instance is the only song we know that references both Royal Ascot and Puppetry Of The Penis. Finding much material in the slow and steady decline of the 21st century and its vain pursuits, Walker isn't afraid to rattle the cage of populist politics, and other comfortable ways of thinking, sighting Mariella Frostrup as well as Richard Littlejohn in the crosshairs. However, it's often when he turns his critical eye on himself, that Walker becomes most profound. "I've been the victim of subtle putdowns" admits Walker on the barnstorming 'm A You-Know-What'. "Scared of being late for work, I have to face the men-folk, I regret all decisions" he voices on rab A Chair', a message further accentuated by the song's prowling bassline, incessant beat and ascending stomp. It's hard to write about what you know, when what you know is increasingly marginalised but this album proves The Pheromoans are at their best when shooting from the sidelines. "Negotiations", the new album from THE HELIO SEQUENCE, the fifth full-length and the band's first in over four years, was written, recorded and produced by the band in their studio in Portland, Oregon. THE HELIO SEQUENCE would sound different had it not been for a flood. In 2009, while touring in support of ,Keep Your Eyes Ahead", singer-guitarist Brandon Summers got an unexpected phone call in the middle of the night. Back home in Portland, the band's studio/practice space was under nearly a foot of water. Heavy rains had caused the building's plumbing to overflow like a geyser. But Summers and drummer-keyboardist, Benjamin Weikel, were lucky: All of their best equipment was either on tour with them, or racked high enough off the studio floor to be spared. Still, the band needed a new home and they decided to use this opportunity to try something different in a new studio space. For reasons related to this new environment and not, recording for ,Negotiations" proved to be the loosest, and most free-form the duo has ever done. For all of that, ,Negotiations" doesn't demand deconstruction. Still, we're happy to do some of it for you: This collection of shimmering, reverb-heavy songs is a meditation on, among other things, solitude, memory, hope, misgivings, loss, atonement, and inner dialogues (hence, ,Negotiations"). And The Unicorn" is the first solo album from ROBOTS IN DISGUISE's Sue Denim, to be released on Sue's own label, Superhealthy. Including 10 songs "And The Unicorn" was recorded and co-produced in North Wales with award-winning producer/mixer David Wrench (Bear In Heaven, Caribou, The School, James Yorkston, Y Niwl), and presents a mixture of simple and honest tracks that are less typical singer-songwriter and more nostalgic pop - sometimes reminiscent of a female Syd Barrett, Jonathan Richman, or Kevin Ayers. Having had plenty of electro fun, touring the world and releasing 4 albums as half of Robots In Disguise in the Noughties, as well as acting in cult TV comedy series The Mighty Boosh, on this album Denim has swapped the synths for seagull cries (The Plan) and drum machines for a toy drum kit (Bicycle) on her adventure into a warm, dreamy and sometimes poignant celebration of life, love, books, bicycles and boys on film, delivering a unique view of the world through her easy, free flowing melodies and lyrics. Musically, "And The Unicorn" is based around acoustic guitar and piano, with Sue's voice sounding natural, dynamic and intimate. She uses her bass skills to sweet dubby effect on the opening track, 'Bicycle', and plays Velvet Underground style violin on 'I'm Not An Island'. Sean Ragon has been active in the DIY punk, industrial and experimental music communities on the east coast for over 15 years while also runing a record store and label in Brooklyn (Heaven Street and Blind Prophet Records, respectively). He has been recording under the moniker of Cult of Youth for the last five years. For this album, Ragon built his own recording studio from scratch in the back of his record store. This allowed him to control every aspect of the album and to take his time recording; he plays five different instruments on LWP and also engineered and mixed the album by himself. The record features contributions from Glenn Maryansky on drums and Christiana Key on violin as well as percussion from the enigmatic ning nong and female vocals from former Battletorn vocalist Beverly Hames. For long time fans of the project, Love Will Prevail sees the marriage of the spontaneity of the earlier releases with the better recording quality of the more recent eponymous lP. This album expands on the psychedelic neofolk foundation of the early work and adds lush atmospheres not dissimilar from Austrian post- industrial futurists Novy Svet (or even the more haunting side of late-60s Miles Davis). There is also an intentional nod to the Crass Records bands that influenced Ragon as a teenager and a tasteful hint of Velvet Underground worship. Tracey Thorn wrote a song that reached Jens in the early stages of his new album, "I Know What Love Isn't". In her song she sang "Oh Jens, oh Jens / your songs seem to look through a different lens / you're still so young, love ends just as easy as it's begun." A touching moment for the Swedish songwriter, having been a fan since his teens. But it came to him in a time when he found himself very confused and in doubt. He was changing and, subsequently, so were his songs. They weren't looking through that lens anymore. "I Know What Love Isn't" came out of a break up, something Jens didn't see as worth writing about at first. The songs began more fleeting than the last go around, on his 2007 album "Night Falls Over Kortedala". The songs began building from images and memories and soon began to take their own route, one that Lekman wasn't privy to their destination. In "The World Moves On" he paints a picture of a sweltering summer in the city of Melbourne where he lived while writing and recording the album. The hot days that led up to the Black Saturday bushfires, but also more mundane images of feeding possums in a park or getting in trouble with some guy on a scooter. It seems to lead nowhere at first but the aimlessness in itself reaches heartbreaking conclusions later on, summed up by the soaring chorus "...and you don't get over a broken heart, you just learn to carry it gracefully." Like Joan Didion once said that she writes entirely to find out what she's thinking, Jens wrote until he caught up with his thoughts. And of course they led him right back to the break up. Musically, "I Know What Love Isn't" chooses an economic route. From the vast palette he created for Kortedala, he's only chosen a few somber colors this time around. There are strings but not a string section, an upright piano and not a grand, a single saxophone and gracenotes from a flute. The songs are lighter, almost aerodynamic, Jens explains - "I wanted the songs to take off almost unnoticeably, where the chorus is separated from the verse only through a small detail like a tambourine or a harmony. Like when you're in an airplane taking off and you look out the window and realize you're already in the air." A dry country piano makes "Become Someone Else's" lift high. Vocals from Melbourne singer Sophie Brous makes the chorus in "Erica America" soar. Strings pick up the title track and send it up to the sky without much effort or force. In the latter, Lekman once again points the way to distill essential truths from every day life vignettes while singing about a sham marriage. "I thought of the Friday nights when I'd be cruising up and down the street with my best friend in her old crappy Holden, talking about getting married to get me into the country. The idea was so appealing, that we would build this constructed relationship around a purpose rather than some vague feeling that could change at anytime. But in the end, the sham marriage is much too great a story to be kept secret. At least when you make a living from telling stories." And that's what "I Know What Love Isn't..." is. A collection of songs that grew to a story that had to be told. A story that is not new, but essentially human. The story of the grey areas of love that you have to excavate and explore, using the method of exclusion, to find out what love is. Record Label: Secretly Style: Independent

Trees" is a new project from COP SHOOT COP member JIM COLEMAN. His creative work has transitioned over the years into a unique blend of cinematic, electro-acoustic music. "Trees" is an intensely personal yet universally transcendent sonic experience and features some extremely talented musicians working with Jim. Kirsten McCord plays cello; she has a release on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label, and has worked with musicians such as Elliott Smith, Vic Chesnutt and Jarboe. Phil Puleo, drummer of Cop Shoot Cop and Swans, plays a variety of instruments, from wood flute to a variety of percussion. Dawn McCarthy adds vocals to two tracks. Dawn has several releases as Faun Fables on the Drag City label. Ellen Fullman plays her self -created long stringed instrument on two of the tracks as well. Ellen's music has been represented at The Whitney Museum, Lincoln Center and The Walker Arts Center. This material is beat driven electronica, firmly rooted in sound collage with a strong cinematic sensibility. Classically trained in piano and French horn, JIM COLEMAN exploded onto the indie rock scene in the 1990s with his seminal NYC band, Cop Shoot Cop, playing alongside the likes of Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Helmet, and Marilyn Manson. CSC released four full- length albums and several EP's and Singles on Big Cat and Interscope Records. Coleman also co-directed several of their music videos. Coleman also has had two notable collaborations. The first was with Italian composer Teho Teardo and was called HERE. The second was with J.G. Thirlwell as BABY ZIZANIE. Coleman on-goingly continues his sonic and visual explorations, creating original music and remixes as PHYLR and continuing his forays in to the world of experimental video. Carletta Sue Kay vocalist Randy Walker is blessed with a four octave vocal range, and writes songs to melt the hearts of even the most cynical. Based in San Francisco, but hailing from a So-Cal hellhole....full of meth, Mexican mafia, the KKK, and Hells Angels, a liberal education in down and own comes through the music unashamedly. The band has shared stages with Grass Widow, Kurt Vile, Ariel Pink, Girls, The Fresh and Only's and Kelley Stolz.
