THE HOME OF EASY CREDIT is the eponymous debut recording from husband and wife team Louise Dam Eckardt Jensen and Tom Blancarte. Taking their name from a department store sign in a dilapidated section of downtown Houston, Texas (Blancarte's native state), the duo draw their inspiration from the gradual awareness of the decline of civilization which permeates our culture. Hailing from a remote rural region of Denmark, Jensen uses subtle and not-so-subtle electronics to blend her vocal, saxophone and flute work with Tom Blancarte's furious bass playing, creating one of the most unique sound worlds in contemporary music. Kentucky native Mark Fosson recorded one album for John Fahey's Takoma Records in 1976 which went unreleased until 2006. Mark recently found the home demo for that session. Here's what he has to say about them :"These 11 tracks are the songs I began writing after acquiring my first 12-String guitar. I recorded them in my living room on a Pioneer RT1050 2-track reel-to-reel with a rented microphone (I believe It was an AKG414 but I won't swear to it). All are originals except for "Back In The Saddle Again" which resulted from my other obsession at the time of watching old black & white Gene Autry movies any chance I could.usually at 5:00AM! I met Mr. Autry many years later and tried to tell him this but the crowd was too loud & his ears were too old & he couldn't hear a word I was saying. Anyway.thanks Gene.Most of these songs would appear later in slightly altered form on "The Lost Takoma Sessions", but these original versions are my personal favorites. I can't believe the tapes have survived so long and still sound as clean as the day I recorded them."

EXTRA LIFE's first record for Northern Spy, "Dream Seeds" marks a dramatically new creative direction in the band's still-young but prolific career. It is perhaps Extra Life's most clearly-defined concept album : seven songs dealing entirely with the twin themes of dreams and children. In a lyrical left turn away from the morbid sexuality and black humor of Made Flesh, these songs look to the subconscious in search of innocence, morality and meaning. According to principal songwriter and elementary school teacher Charlie Looker, the lyrics began with a consecutive series of harrowing dreams involving children, all interconnected by recurring symbols. Claiming to be in some way spiritually reborn, Looker penned the songs while mining these dreams buried pasts and even watching in awe as some of their prophesies unfolded in all-too-real life. Alternately brutal and tender, haunted by ghosts of both the dead and the unborn, the songs of Dream Seeds express the violent yet redemptive collision of the Real and Psychic Worlds and an archaic belief in the divine truth of dreams.

In South Manchester throughout 1989 two groups routinely rehearsed in adjacent rehearsal rooms, exchanging nods of acknowledgment like polite neighbours with nothing much to say to each other. One of these groups would soon become known to the world, whilst the other was to soon retire from it - Manchester, and the world, was about to go Mad. The Chrysalids were brought to the cusp of being by indie pop crooner, John Wood, ( late of C86's One Thousand Violins) and Corsican maverick musician, Yves Altana, who had taken refuge in the city where many of their strongest musical affinities had originated. However, in 1989 expressive singing was soon to become drowned out by a chemicalized Madchester monotone, and songwriters who felt that they could pull anything out from pop's lustrous historical bag were to be largely overlooked in favour of the merely 'baggy'. The Chrysalids had accumulated a repertoire of pop mastery and emotionial intensity, but they were 'down' just as the rest of the world around them was 'up'. Their songs were a testimony to those who felt apart from the world, not a part of it. The final mastering of The Chrysalids' album 'Neither Love Nor Money' one week prior to the announcement of The Stone Roses reunion sees The Chrysalids finally come fully into the world - not so much as the "resurrection" but as the life. Now, more than 20 years since the songs on this album took their first breath (and featuring four entirely new recordings) 'Neither Love Nor Money' is no fossilised pop pupa but, rather, brings The Chrysalids to us as the unbroken butterfly of 2012.

ZULUS are a Brooklyn, NY-based band consists of Daniel Martens, Aleksander Prechtl, Jeremy Scott and Julian Benett Holmes. After seven years of collaborating in bands such as post-hardcore Battleship and Prsms in the San Francisco Bay Area, the duo Martens and Prechtl started songwriting together a little over a year ago. "The songs we started writing were, to our ears, far more poppier than anything we had worked on together before. This was partly because I hadn't ever played drums seriously before, and so my drumming was far simpler than any of the talented drummers we've played with in the past. It was also, I suspect, partly because we wanted to move away from hardcore. We were also at that time both playing in a reunion version of the early 90's hardcore band Rice (featuring Rop Vazquez), so that was already an outlet for our more aggressive musical tendencies. Although relying heavily on synchronisation (the most important source of sound being a Prophet 600, the first polyphonic-synth to implement the midi-synchronisation signal), every track constantly shifts and turns in unexpected ways. Sometimes creeping drones seamlessly leave heavy pulsations behind in the dust, other times abruptly blending melodies into strange permutations of polyrhythms, never quite settling back into any sort of pattern. An organic element being a constant presence in these tracks. The closest reference to this sort of music is of course the school of german Kosmiche: Cluster, Kraftwerk, Harmonia, etc. But the strains of John Carpenter & Steve Reich individual brands of modulation & repetition is just as clearly apparent throughout the album. Topped off with an overall psychedelic tone ala Can or Soft Machine. Besides drumming in respected stoner-psych outfit Causa Sui, Jakob Skott has been involved in a wide varage of projects. Including drum duties for Limp (Morr Music) & Chicago Odense Ensemble (featuring Jeff Parker & Rob Mazurek of Tortoise, etc.). Jakob also operates as the noted shoegaze-duo Syntaks alongside his girlfriend Anna (Ghostly International). Furthermore, Jakob is the one responsible for the El Paraiso visual shtick, as well as having done exclusive live visuals for such acts as Amon Düül II, Acid Mothers Guru, actress Asia Argento & the Roadburn festival. Impetus implies movement. The doppler effect is soundwaves shifting in pitch as the listener approaches it: Manipulation of sound thru the use of space!
